I know a couple of riders with 05s, they are apparently harder than those of us on 03/04s, but the few 05s that I've ridden haven't been broken in yet, so they're soft as in comparison. You found that Quaz? I love raw power. Nice bikes tho, and easy as to ride until you wake them up.. One thing about the 05s, the deep roar of the RamAir has been reduced to almost a whimper compared to the 03/04s too, but it has the power to pull it off tho..

If you're looking to buy a new 600 (or any year bike), go ride them all and see which best suits you. They're all fairly equal in specs now, but the riding position varies heaps between bikes, so really, it's not the make any more (unless you're a hardcore user), it's what best suits yer wallet and yer butt.. which would be the 636 :niceone:

hey Quaz, you got about 1500 bucks to blow? I've found a couple of toys for yer bike that you might like.. a new can, and powercommander preset for the bike. Extra 10-15 ponies and torque, plus nice and throaty..

Hey bugjuice, what Can do you have on your bike?

I am thinking of changing my stock Can. Maybe a Yoshi or Micron.

at the moment, its stock. It's a tad scratched up, but it's still fine. Sounds awesome for stock too, but after seeing and hearing this pipe  I got some savin to do.. I'd be :buggerd: if I can remember the name of it tho.. Should be able to fit most makes to it, just finding the right one I guess

no idea. I've been told the 636s will happily play with most 750s, but that would probably be the older 750s, not GSXRs, cos they're still a little newer than those. But I'm happy to take on thous (and knowingly loose, but not by heaps and heaps), so GSXR750s wouldn't be too hard to annoy.. and it'd depend on the rider too..

I prefer the 03 model, the new one is very light in the steering, also the blade hides the Speedo tacho, can be fixed with a new blade I guess. the bike is gruntier ie another 11 hp, but this doesnt make a lemon of the 03 model. I dont think its worth upgrading for, I really dont.

Cant afford the 1500 now mate trying to get the race bike soughted be keen to see yours kitted out though mate

Cheers

the 05 you rode, did it feel more powerful than your 03?
Agree on the lightness. The head must be at a sharper angle than ours. Don't think we have too much to worry about at the mo, but we'll see I guess. Really would like to ride one that's been beat in a little more, the one's I've been on have low ks, so it's hard to tell.
We should swap bikes anyway, see if they make the same noises etc. Mine sounds like a tractor when it's running from cold, but I've been told that's normal..?? Done just over 11,000 now :(

I'd really like to get a steering damper on mine before anything else, but yeah, really tempted on the can and PC upgrade. Get it dyno'd before and after too. man, I've got some saving to do.. was thinking of a new rear shock too, just more interest than anything, but not totally fussed..

had a ride on one bloody great ride, not as scary as the ZX10Rs!
would not need a steering damper as bad as a 10 though!
the front feels a bit more in control.
would chase down allmost any 750 if you ride it hard,
you can use a bit more gas on them and they dont bite
back as hard as a 10 as well

A certain member on here has just bought one. Had a sit on it, and it feels pretty comfortable indeed. I seemed to fit snugly in, almost meant to be hehe. Looks great in metallic gun-metal. Sounds nice for a stock muffler, especially good at high revvs. However, it's yet another bike with the short-sighted problem of one head-light on, one off during normal use, prompting the standard "Mate, you've got a headlight out..."

The Asymetry would drive me fricken nuts, as would the "Mate....." hehe
You know another bike that is pretty good? Those R1 things.

Sillyness (or IS it;)) aside, if I were in the market for a 600, the 05 ZX-6R would be a serious option.

so guess I might be seeing you on a "achm" gun metal ZX-6R then :)

but yes I hate Asymetry too.... might just have to hav both wired on.

Yes those R1 things are good... but I was scared of bringing it over 7k.... nuts haven't grown big enough yet.

Im sorry I stillsay R6 R6 R6 R6. But Im completly biased. For me personally it would come down 2 these 2 bikes. There is no denying it that the 636 is reviewed as a better bike. Infact it seems to win all the reviews. But as I said Im biased. But hey who knows I could be sitting on either in 12 months time.

Madmax - the 636 doesn't need a damper as bad as the 10s (no way in hell!), but could use one all the same. Mine is real lively up front under gas. It sits solid as, but a small bump starts the front skipping.. That is one thing I like about the 636 tho, and a few people have said the same - you can give it some real shit, throttle it in every gear, and the nose will only come up if you want it to. It's almost sat forward, so when you gun it, the back sits down slightly and puts the power on the road and stays predictable, which I like. Then when I want the front up, I tell it, and it does so.. lovely.

FEINT - ta. I probably won't remember it even when I've bought it, but I'm trying..

SC & Zapf - I get that about the headlight all the time. Someone told me that it was part of the weight savings (about 4 grams or something stupid), so the extra wiring, relay, even down to the bulbs and reflectors, one weighs less than both being on. Same with the running lights on the side. I've seen 03s (I think) with side lights on too, but they've long gone.. Crazy, huh? If you want the other on, you just flick the full beam. If you wire it on, the reflector in there is the full beam, so it'll be a lot of work to make it a regular headlight. Just go with the weight saving story, and people just nod in appreciation..

Judderbar - Can understand that you love the R6. Each to their own. One thing I would give ya over the 636, is the R6 does all that with 599cc, where as the 636 obviously does it with 636cc..

I think it did slightly, but not really.
I have done a lot of trackdays now and I have never really had a head shake moment, at manfeild through the front straight coming out of the sweeper at full throttle the head lifts up and wiggles slightly but is completely managable, so Im not to worried about getting a damper.
Mine is at 17kms now, I notice its a bit tapet noisy at a cold start , I think its time for a tune up to get the tolerances soughted.
Would like a new Can but the cost puts me off, one day maybe, but I will prolly buy a new bike before that day comes, maybe a 07 ZXR636 when they come out.

I must be weird, I really like the one headlight thing on. I think its cool.
ive had two people tell me about it though, but thats ok, I like meeting fans of bikers. And they just really want to talk to you and talk about bikes I found, the headlight was an excuse (really)

yup, ditto..
mine sounds like a tractor at startup from cold, I've been told it's normal. It goes away ok when it warms up, so I guess if it doesn't go away, then there's a problem. 'Lumpy cams' is the excuse I've been given. I'll buy it..
The Mussy can alone is about $800 if that's more manageable, and I've seen some for a shade cheaper, but the stock isn't bad at all. I'm kinda doing it for the PC and the can, else I'm not overly fussed.
As for the front, you've played with your settings, so that might sort out the skipping. Have you seen/tried these settings? http://www.sportrider.com/bikes/146_susp_settings/#kawasaki Don't know if they're any good, or if they're for road or race bikes..

still love it tho.
Still need to sort out the front flashers and the pegs, which I'm going to get done before the rally.. hopefully before Taupo..

Zapf, the new 636 must be bloody good because I'm seriously considering moving across (not trading down!) to one. I've a list of the things the cbr1000rr does better and other logical reasons why I shouldn't change. BUT after a week on a loaner 04 636 then a weekend with the 05 636 I'm hooked. The 04 model had the cheapest shit tyres ever made so maybe that's why I came away thinking it should have been put down like a lame horse.
The 05 was amazing. Plenty of power, corners brilliantly and wheelies on command everytime. Front brake took some getting used too. It's a bit slow on the initial bite and the rear even worse but all just a matter of getting acustomed to it. Most of all I liked the styling and the green. None left here so I'll probably cool off the idea by the time more arrive in stock.

No offence Kwaka guys, but the GSXX-R750 would annialate the 636... The 750 is compared to 1000's where the 636 is considered a more "peppy" 600...

Personally i would go for the 750 (not because im a gixxer nut) due to the fact the gixxer has more torque (great for the road) and has the exact same dimensions of the GSX-R600 (handles brilliantly)

and TS, I know what you mean, but then if you're going higher than a 6, then get a thou...?? I only wanted a 6, cos that's more than enough to get into trouble with, let alone more. The 636 will happly toy with older 750s without too much problem, but the Gixer is still being made, which means it's still fairly up to date, so it's got the edge on a lot of bikes.. I think I'll have to agree.... coming from a twin, I do like to ride the torque. And there is not much torque to ride on the 600's or the 636.

03 636 Vs 03 750

750 makes 40 ft.lb of torque at 4'000. 50 ft.lb at 8'000 and peaking at 55 ft.lb at 10'500rpm.

636 makes 25 ft.lb at 4'000. 42 ft.lb at 8'000 and peaking at 45 ft.lb at 11'000rpm

As for power 750 makes 120 at 12'000 and 636 makes 103 at 12'000.

Above dyno figures are from http://www.m4exhaust.com/products/flash/M4_Exhaust.html

BUT THE 636 IS SO SUCH A PIECE OF ART COMPAIRED WITH THE 750!
