Here you go Ladies and Gents. Something for you all to disect, pull apart, compare notes and scrutinise as I know you will do.
There were 10 riders who had their last lap removed as they were already over the 3 hours and we had to manually adjust them. The way I see it they got another lap in for training purposes:laugh: Danger would have loved that!!
We have checked the laps and can't really see a great deal of variation that would affect any final result. Couple of quick novices?? that may have to re assess their classes next year for sure.

No just some dude I met in the queue when I was waiting. Although i said he ought to get on KB so wait and see.
He's just finished the dirtguide 4 round x country series and hates sand!! so guess he could be pretty fast in the slippery clayey stuff. Thought we were pretty well matched. Just coming in behind Adam & Stefan ( although giving them 5mins!) was pretty pleased with that. I fell off too many times on my second lap was knackered at the end, even though just did 2 laps!

I was the last 'public' out of the forest on Sunday and there was a huge team of miscreants still working (well holding cans anyway...) It takes big team effort to run an event like this and ya did good.... :Punk:

Reckless may have a good point re real names being a poss resource for thieves. Maybe delete login names PDF & we can edit our posts after a week when we've moved on the next thing just to play it safe?
Ha. You can leave my name off PDF no worries there. Still bloody unhappy with how I rode but I always like the point in race where your body is telling you "I'm too tired, It's getting too difficult." Great if you can push that out of mind and keep focus. Very satisfying when you can do that. Was pleasantly surprised I rode for 3hrs, thought it would've been about close to 2,1/2.
"Pain is just weakness leaving the body." USMC hoowah.
It's a buzz being on the same track as the fast guys. 90% sure when I got a Birching as he flew past w city scramble livery (I think Karl was on his own bike?). Amazing pace & grace. Hard to figure out how the fast guys process the visual info so well at that speed. Decisions and adjustments being made in tiny fractions of a second.
Chop I figured you were pretty handy but you're well flash. Vazza you did a great solo, I thought you hadn't been riding very long?

28th July 2009, 19:00
Mate, that hill was the best spot for minties moment photos. I rode out to help SpikedPunch and it was amazing how many people botched it. Its not like they had never been down it before either. It was well into the race.
I'd guess that every 8th rider washed the front out or went over the bars. One guy went down then stopped moving. I was concerned enough to drop the bike and start running over to help but he must have been doing some sort of self diagnostics check and eventually started moving again.

That was scary! He was laying in the middle of the hill not moving, and another guy had started to drop over the edge! I think us yelling got him going tho.
So, yeah, if you want a little nap after taking a spill, don't do it in the middle of the track

Noobi you haven't filed your race report. You OK?
IIIRII
29th July 2009, 15:03
What race report ?
Both being complete Noobs and never riden anything like this before,
The start was pretty scarey being on grid 19 completely surrounded by other riders
We were originally going to do the Father and son thing, but there was a bit of confusion over a team mate for the other rider with us,so we desided to do the 2 man with an additional chap to team up with Noobie.
When we got there we couldnt find him so the three of us thought "how hard could it be" lets do the ironman thing and ride together.
Thats plan failed at the first corner when Noobie and Phil dissappeared into the distance .....
Anyway, I was reluctant to put too much pressure on Chris Birch and desided to do the race at my own pace and ended up doing 3 laps , noobie and Phil did 4.
TBH I spent too much time rescuing people before it dawned on me that it was a race and there are dedicated sweepers for this job.
I could have done 4 laps if I wasnt helping people.
Young guy spat the chain off his bike at the top of horrible sandy hillclimb
Older chap splatted himself on the slippery uphill (bolders bit)
Spiked punch (twice)
Various others.
The main learning was, dont be a muppett , we cant ride at race pace for 2 1/2 hours ....
So we have agreed we will enter Father and Son for the next rounds.
Apart from being totally shagged , it was really good fun and we all enjoyed it.
I thought it was very well run and no real issues with any of the organisation etc:
I didnt realise it was KTM Boy giving me the "Idiots guide to how it works" prior to us entering (or I would have said hi)
Dumbest moment for me, doing the land speed record towards the timing checkin and braking at the 1 meter mark and dropping the bike right at the chichane .....Luckily no one saw (lol not)

That's about 31 or so of us incl friends and riding buddies!
What would Ktm Boy do without us eh!! LOL!!!
camchain
29th July 2009, 21:35
Good on you IIIRII & Noobi. It's a bit stronger flavoured than trail riding for sure but great to do it. Sounds like KB'ers got home without too much damage. Mate's girl friend had a look in ambo now and then, apparently one or two pretty bad scrapes and dings for some.
Yeah Noobi, gotta drink a lot beforehand. I try and drink more than 3 litres before, but then I don't carry any water with me.
I counted up 275 riders in total, pretty good turnout I'd say.

Harhee! If seeded grids next time, you're probably right vazza but I'm still going to try. If I catch you I'll give it 3 loud revs before I pass - give you a sporting chance to apply that roost.
Dammad - Bit of riding to be had up the road at Glasshouse Mountains. Or better still, leave the rocks alone & come back home to the green and fertile NZ.

Yeah and even then you are only suppose to ride on the forestry roads, alot of people make tracks anyway but they do police alot of the areas now including the glass house mountains. If there was a place over here within a hour of brisbane that you could legally ride the owner would clean up, but they are even more PC here than in NZ.
Seriously if it was only the riding to consider I would be back in a heartbeat, but that really is the only thing I miss about NZ, there is just so much more opportunity here just because of the share size of the place.
But anyway good luck to all you guys for the next one, my race buddy got 9th in the iron man, just wish I was there to whip his ass!!
