cold nuts mate...

Yeap and feet wet, truck is pretty bent so nothing really seals, water came over the wing mirrors and the door top accordingly :shit: ...was just cool enough!! Too deep for a bike tho and it would be over the top of the DR mirrors, note to one self ..DO NOT try to ride that track :D

Hopefully going into skippers on the weekend on the bike, few creek crossings there!

This is one Jamie took of me crossing Nolan's Brook on Cape York, very very slowly carefully and nervously, since the onlookers had told us: -
1. The gaps between the logs were just the right width to let a bike wheel drop through.
2. The water was a bit over 2 meters deep
3. The last guy who dropped his bike in there took 2 days to fish it out
Of course Jamie just rode across like it was the plank exercise on a basic handling skills course.

These are a few I took of Jamie crossing the aptly named "Mistake Creek" and proving beyond all doubt the DR electrics are not as waterproof as we thought

Electrics or carb breather issues?

To tell the truth, I don't know for sure. I don't think that we drained the carb but I can't be sure of it. I do know that she fired up completely happy, after sitting for about 25 minutes (once we got her out of the water that is).

I'm tempted to "T" the float bowel breather up into the airbox so it dosn't stall in longer water crossings.

You want to connect your bowel to your airbox?????
Won't this mean that you talk shit all the time, instead of just occasionally???
The bad breath that it will surely cause, defies description but might be useful for getting rid of unwelcome visitors.
Actually, I think I will stop this theme right there as I can think of several possible side effects (many involving methane) that would provide ample fuel for a whole different thread.
Do you smoke?

#1. I made this good splash crossing a ford at pace on Mt Aspiring Rd near Wanaka on my KLR650 back in 1999. Bloody rubber footpegs, my foot slipped off the peg on this one.
#2. The boys mucking around on one of the many crossings on the Nevis, bikes were going oppostie ways thru the river trying to drench each other.

Photos has been scanned from original, hence the average quality.

Yea and I spose if water gets in that vent tube its probarbly the least of your worries. actually if you put it in the right place it could shut down the engine before any water gets through.:Offtopic:

Yeap there where three of us on the ride ...me, myself and I.

There was a handy DOC sign post right there so just chucked the camera up on that, did the turn around and filmed it, clipped off the front bit we didn't want and hey presto me going through the ford, thought they mighta been deeper but most water is stuck on the hills and frozen.

My first official creek crossing on Suzy WOH HOH :wari:

+1. Much better control when feet are on the pegs, easier again if you are standing. Boots are easy to dry compared to motors!

agreed, but :doctor: on a previuos ride, so couldnt stand.
but after watching a few training DVDs i've been swayed to the standing technique and i must say my ridings diffinately improving, just gotta get me strength back in my gammy leg and i'll be away :niceone:
