View Full Version : Anyone clean their bike at the track with a 12v carcube pressure washer?

Just want to know what they are like? do they have enough pressure? and enough water ?would be good to be able to clean bikes between races especially when its really muddy
petrol washers are a bit bulky for our trailer and the water tank to supply it would be too heavy

I'd like to be proved wrong however IME there is no way you can possible get enough power from a 12v unit for a decent pressure wash.
Lug the petrol one along.

yeh but if you have a squirty bottle of the old dynamo you don't need high pressure!!
Might just work!! Scrap the heavy crap off with the old plastic spatchler, dynamo it, and hopefully that water blaster would do the job.
I haven't used a blaster on my bikes for a year or more to protect the seals and bearings etc only ever use the hose now.

saw somthing similar to that in action at the two man dont recon it would do much for mud but probably great to get sand dust etc off

i hear this a lot here, and i dont understand how it works. for me dynamo seems to make little difference, and theres no way the mud my bike gets coated in is guna come off with the hose. the hose works just fine for sand or some other kinds of dirt, but mostly for me all it does is make wetter mud.

Well i think i just might buy one, seeing as i own a mobile car valet business i sorta know how much pressure you need, and its not that much , all my water blasters are low pressure units, its the 2000 psi plus units that can do the damage ive always washed my bikes with a pressure washer and never had a problem but then i use low pressure and dont get in close to sensitive bits
OK i'll be the crash test dummy... will let you know how i get on...GEE'S the things i do for you guys:rolleyes: p.s i thought dynamo was a thing on a bycycle wheel to power the lights;)

hmm, just compared the specs- at 130psi, and only 4 litres per minute, it has neither pressuer nor volume in its favour. to compare specs, a cheapy karacha ($200 jobbies) are 1400psi... so this produces less than 10%.. and one of them can take a while to clean a bike.... so i cant see it being too brilliant

ok have a look http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=40fiVr_4iv8
its no water blaster, but hey you dont have to cart a petrol powered waterblaster around with you and a huge water tank, probably wont clean the clay off the bike from patetonga mx track but oh well might as well give it a go

theres some petrol powered ones on tardme for around the $400 mark new, looks kinda inviting

What about setting up a trailer that catches the water and recyles it. you could put a filter unit that dumps the mud and chunky bits.
I'd say you'd be better off with a cheap kratcher one and an inverter.

I love having a dirty bike on the trailer all the way home. Cleaning the bugger when you get there is another matter though.

I can only tell you what works for me. And I think Dynamo is bloody good!
I go for a thrash through the grass to flick the mud outed the knobblies then I always clean the underguards etc with a plastic scrapper I have in the tool kit before leaving say Kimis, only 5 mins work but it means you don't end up with a bucket of mud you can't wash down the drain at home. When I get home, hose off as much dirt as poss. We have good hose pressure but I don't spray it till its anywhere near clean just the big dags off. Then spray all surfaces, incl tyres, with a 100ml in 1 litre mix off dynamo. If you get that 2x strength stuff I only use 50ml in a litre a bottle of dynamo lasts quite well. Remove the Air filter and install the filter bung so you can clean inside there with the dynamo as well. The trick I have found is to cover all areas with the spray and leave it for a while to let the hungry enzymes do there thing. If ya haven't sprayed it, it won't be clean. I hang my armour on the fence which where a pain in the ass to clean before dynamo, hydration pack and boots give them a squirt, then hose them all off and bobs your uncle. If ya Dynamo the bike first then do all the gear enough time has past to hose off the bike generally. Mostly don't use a brush when washing off but if its really crappy it hepls to go over it after the first rinse off. Then CRC over most of it, oil the chain, Wipe the fork legs with an oily rag and put it away! Pretty quick over all.
Just my method each to their own??
Actually just had an Idea! I might use our weed killer sprayer that'll be easier than the 1L hand squirt bottle i have and I can mix 5L at a time!! Shit glad I typed this!!
Btw it generally takes about 2/3 of a bottle per bike and gear! Sometimes I'll get away with a 1L mix if I'm doin both bikes at the same time.

a 1.5kw inverter?
Ok the inverter sounds like a cool idea but whats that gonna cost $250..$300 then if you had to buy a cheap karcher $130 thats $400 to $500 then a watertank it all adds up i think i will go for the under $200 option with every thing i need, in something the size of a 20lire plastic container. Besides we are trying to squeeze everything onto a 3 bike 7x4 trailer so the smaller the better .
I must admit though the inverta idea has me thinking ,
any ideas on cheap invertas ?

i was pulling the piss in my previous post regarding the inverter idea.
you're looking around $1500-2000 for a 1.5kw inverter. then theres the issue of running it.
given that to run a 1500w inverter from a 12v battery youl will be pulling
125AMPs of current....
consider then that your vehicle likely has a 100A alternator if its a big one, and that thats its max rating, at revs well above idle this will fuck your battery and alternator real fast, blow chunks off your battery if you knock the cables- cause fire if you get big arcs, etc etc etc............................................... .................................................. .................................................. .........
to summarise- running a waterblaster off an inverter isnt a viable option. use a petrol one

here is a 1000w inverter for $47 USD
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.21983
My water blaster draws 1.3kw, so get a slightly smaller unit.
Or, get a stuffed one and marry it up with a car starter motor. should be grunty enough.

Ok now have a carcube..wow really well made.. and got it for a very very good price .. have tried it for pressure and its more powerful than a garden hose but not as powerful as a waterblaster...should be fine as long as mud and crap is still wet..will let you know how it works at a race meet or trail ride

Wow thats cheap, i looked into a petrol waterblaster
but carrying it on the trailer plus the 2 bikes ,ez up, and a water tank, would just be too much for the poor old 7x4 trailer, with the carcube i can carry everything plus an extra 20litres of water with almost no extra weight
im taking pics of my trailer setup tomorrow and will post on here, ive set up my trailer independant of the car its got a 12v deep cycle mobility scooter battery and accesory outlet in the side of the tool box, thats runs the car cube and a tyre compressor,we are racing this sunday at cambridge motox and this will be its first test,,,, yep 1300psi is ideal for washing bikes ive had a mobile car valet business for about 11 years and have probably worn out 8 or 9 waterblasters in that time.. low pressure is all you need.. i use about 50 litres per car and use a 200 litre tank
cheers Dave

Ok have finally used the car cube 12v power washer cleaned 2 x moderatly grubby bikes after mx at cambridge
did a great job and we could drive straught home after event without stopping off at washworld used about 12 litres of the 13 liter tank but had a spare 20 litres just in case
As for the mx the guys had a great time 1x rm250 blown headgasket, 1 x flat front tyre,1x throttle grip ripped off, 1x grazed arm,1x possibly broken foot,
our group of guys rode 2x yz450's 2x rm250's 2 x crf250's
1x crf 450 1x yz250
Had a good time and a lot of laughs
and as for the car cube sure its no water blaster but has enough grunt to save us some time and money at a car wash place and for $150 delivered its very good value and well made[/QUOTE]
my last report as above on the car cube

We have a good place right next to drain at home, out back, to clean the bikes all our cleaning gear brushes and oil for the chains etc in the one spot. But it might be good to have one of these to get the bulk of the crap off before it all dries on etc would make the final clean and oil at home alot easier! Man have I washed some crap down that drain or what!
Thanks for the feedback laser!
