This makes my blood boil...

Playing by the rules doesn't mean shit if you're making your own fucking rules.

Cunts should be strung up for the crows.

And don't forget the millions spent on air travel for retired washed up pollies.
No wonder they bailed out their own private airline to the tune of $800 million just a few years back. Couldn't have Air New Zealand going down the tubes because that would be the end of one of their major perks.

NZ Superann not enough for you ? Try being an M.P. Massive perks for life.

We would be well served with a law change that said...

Politicians are moved to the back of the line.. heart attack ? wait in an orderly fashion please. Superann ? Join the line at WINZ.

If our pollies cant afford to pay their own travel and accommodation expenses on their fat salaries then they need budgeting advice.

Hmmmm...wonder if they'd pay me $1000 a week to stay in my own house? Would be half the cost of putting me up in jail...

The trouble is they can just go and vote themselves a payrise or any thing, without us knowing about it untill it is done. We couldn't get a rule change because they would never let us.

Yup, you have to wonder. Poor chap is only on $276,000 a year too!

If he had any balls, he'd resign over this. I'm not holding my breath though. Just like I'd be amazed if those people who were crapping all over that woman we pay $700 a week to look after her three kids now come out and condemn Billy for sucking a grand a week out of the public tit for fuck all.

He's not the only one. Politicians (from all parties) have been feathering their own nests at the taxpayer's expense since the dawn of politicians.

We have a prime minister who is worth $50,000,000 and yet he still feels the need to get paid over $300,000 a year and claim these expenses on top of that. What a wanker.

How much of that does he take?
How much goes to charity?

I'm actually not sure he can refuse to take it. It's handled by the remuneration authority.

So let’s see if I’m getting this right.

English is claiming $1000 a week for rent and expenses to live in his home that is part of the English family trust.

So in effect not only are we paying his rent to live in the family home but contributing taxpayer dollars to the English family trust at the same time.

And this arsehole is the one who said that the country could not afford tax cuts.

Yet he could have moved his family across town to the residence provided by the taxpayer for the minister of finance, rented out the house where he lives now and made considerably more...oh, and btw both Green and Liarbour MP's charge the maximum to their allowances to stay in properties owned by their respective parties, what really, is the difference?

Trusts are independent legal entities. The English Family Trust owns the house and is receiving the weekly rental payment i.e. Mr English doesn't own the house and isn't receiving the rent.

But I agree with your sentiment. It shows extremely poor political judgement.

It matters not whether he is worth 50 cents or 50 million, he is wealthy and I dont begrudge him of that for one moment. The job he is doing is worth that and more considering the responsibility.
And that also went for Helen Clark, even though Id happily see her burnt at the stake there is no way that Id begrudge anyone in such a position such a salary.
Good on Lockwood Smith for making this all public, its very notable that the ''socialists'' are the biggest hypocrites of the lot.
