View Full Version : Everyday motobiking?

I have noticed that in my everyday life, I come across situations where I reflect back, and think am I only doing this because im a biker?
Looking at other people around, to see if im the odd one out.
For instance, im pushing my trolley around at Pack & Save and notice that everyone is all hunched over and dragging there heals (mostly men following their partners)
While i have my elbows up in attack position, ready to swoop in on a check out, or snatch that last can of baked beans.
Am I just stupid or are their other out there in the world that have similar relatable experiences back to motor biking??

I find my trolleys are drift cars. Especially when my 15month old son is in it. He loves it sliding around the corners!!!

Mainly just riding my bicycle. Me and krad had a race last night. I block passed him and got the $500 holeshot, but he beat me right at the end! Darn!
I do lots of stuff that I didn't pre dirtbiking that relates back to it. Spending a lot more time with dirty nails is a big one. Choice of magazines, clothing (Oh, this'd be nice and warm for loading the bikes!) and nutrition all seem to relate back to it! Nothing like reading bike mags on the ferry in full girly business attire. And yes I have been known to twist the throttle on the shopping trolley from time to time..brrrrriiing ding ding ding:whistle:

ready to swoop in...
I know the feeling well.:blip:
Also noted is the mentality and skills displayed by society, as they move around a supermarket. I believe it is a reflection of how the person behaves on the road when they are driving their car.
*Arrogance and ignorance of others.
*Failure to look.
*A blind and/or narrow focussed field of view that eliminates everything apart from what the person is concentrating on.

I get my groceries delivered to my house so I can be out riding rather than wasting time in a supermarket.

I spent ten years in Dargaville....twenty two years ago...:sunny:
I don't think I do any of that stuff. Maybe it's the Dargaville influence...I wasn't there long enough for it to "take"...

If this were 15 years ago you wouldn't have this forum so you'd be using a psychiatrists couch.
and the psychiatrist thing may go like this....
"So how long have you had this way of viewing the world as though you're on the outside?"
mmmm....
"I feel the raised elbows are a sign of your unleashed anger. How long has anger been a problem for you?"
a-huh... mmmm.... okay I see.
"So you've been in denial and hidden this for most of your life? Do you feel there may be some issues that you have buried that occurred in your childhood?"
a-huh...
"I'm going to recommend that you take this prescription of Reitilin and it'll help take the edge of the issues you face and I'd like you to see me weekly for the next 4 years while we uncover these unresolved issues."
"I get the sense that your aggressive riding of motorbikes may be related to this and I'm going to recommend that the Police suspend your motorcycle licence leaving you with your car licence while we do this work."
Buddy L proceeds to strangle the psychiatrist before being detained in one of those stylish white jackets and introduced to new accommodation.
"Mr "L", we're going to use the latest form of treatment to help you overcome some of these feelings you have had. We'll be placing an electrode on both sides of your head and applying a small amount of voltage to re-correct the electrical impulses within your neurology."
Damn, aren't you glad you have KiwiBiker to turn to.

And on a more real note generally when I've met someone and we've just got on I'd later find out they ride or used to ride. As for the supermarket thing... ahhh nope. You have issues. lol.

I think maybe the mindset is the same reason that people start riding bikes in the first place, not necessarily that because we ride bikes we act in a certain way but more that we act in a certain way and therefore we ride (and other things) :)
no?

Yep, counter steering is also a big plus with those supermarket trolleys.

I like doing wheelstands with trolleys that are full.
Drifting them is fun too.
We have some in our warehouse at work, and I do stunts with them :bleh:

The wife and I are speed shoppers, I send her on ahead while I negotiate traffic.
groceries at a packed pack n save takes 10 mins tops.
you can get quite a bit of lean angle with a trolley doing a U turn between ailes before you spill it's contents.

yeah i feel different about alot since i started biking on the road. i feel more confident at high speeds (not that my bike does them), i find people look at you like your a god when you ride. and i feel like i own the road and im the king of it when on the open road. being a biker is awesome. back to the point, it makes you look at things different yes

Hmmm, I was just thinking about this post as i was walking along Willis St today - ever since I started biking, I've also started walking as if I were riding - eg. doing head checks when the (pedestrian) traffic merges / intersects.
Maybe that's why I haven't walked into anyone for a while? :o Yes I'm that uncoordinated...
