We spoke with JGR/Toyota/Yamaha’s Coy Gibbs this afternoon to get an update on Josh Grant and the injuries he suffered at X-Games this past weekend. According to Gibbs, Grant is on his way back to North Carolina today and is scheduled see a specialist in the morning in Charlotte to determine the degree of the injuries he suffered to his feet and ankles.
“We don’t really know the extent of it right now, but we’ll know more tomorrow,” said Gibbs “He definitely sprained one ankle and he bruised up both heels pretty bad. The other ankle is probably the biggest concern. They did X-rays in California but it wasn’t conclusive, and this doctor he’s seeing in the morning is a specialist so we should know more after that.”
Grant went down during the heat race of the Super-X race at this weekend’s X-Games and was carted off on a backboard and taken to a local hospital. Grant currently sits in second place in the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship series standings, 65 points behind Chad Reed.

I saw the crash looked real nasty im surprised hes till got teeth too
It was clear he was none to happy with his mechanic they were swapping some fierce words afterwards
Makes me wander why these guys would risk themselves for this event i sure as hell would be doing what Reed is and passing to focus on the task at hand

here is a post on a US message board from Michael Sleeter, one of the riders from the X Games, explains why he races it, and it would explain why some of the big names raced it to,

So X-Games is all over and after bringing a knife to a gun fight I'm pumped to leave the race safe and making the Main on a 250f and even getting the holeshot in heat 1. I read about some of the posts about how you guys wonder why Grant and other top guys would even do X-games during the important outdoor season?
I'll tell you the reason why, TV TV TV... Our sport is on the edge of going bye bye and anything that a team can do to get exposure for our sponsors is what we have to do. It is such a shame to see riders get injured in these one-off races as I have done it myself. Live TV in front millions of fans is something our sport doesn't get too often so teams have to bite the bullet for their title sponsors and go to these events. For riders like me that can't do all the outdoors it's great because I will get more exposure from this one race then getting five top-10s in the outdoors.
Another great thing about the X-Games is how great all the athletes are treated. We have great purse money, the staff is really happy that you could be there to race, rider's input is #1, there is no entry fee because you are the show. Tell me this isn't how it should be in AMA SX? My sponsors are all pumped that I was out there but I made a point of being very cautious and making smart decisions due to the fact I have to go to work on Monday.
Josh Grant had a mechanical, Blake Wharton blew it and jumped on top of Antsie so all of these events could have been prevented, but that is racing and when you go racing things can happened out of a rider's control. Lets just be happy our sport is on the Main stage on live TV and pray that those two riders can recover 100% from their crashes

Yeah thats kinda logical to the guys and i quote "who cant make all the outdoor rounds"
But for someone like grant to risk it just doesnt add up to me,but then again i suppose as the rumours go sponsorship is gonna get tight next season
The "sport" we love so much will NEVER die as long as the "true" fans support it,for a top athlete to go out and potentialy ruin a season just to hopefully get a few more people interested in the sport seems crazy
Catch 22 maybe

i can understand if someone was in the hunt for a championship, but the exposure is huge, and the teams know that, in saying that tho only a couple of the major teams showed up,
interesting what he says about how he is treated as compared to at an AMA round

I had also read somewhere that JGR had decided to race Grant for the exposure to the general audience also, partly why JS was entered in so many events at X also.
But hey doesnt look like the exposure did any good for Grant this time around aye..
