That thread on an "amusing incedent" got me thinking. There seems to be a passion on this site held by a lot of us for planes, and by some of us for trains.

I love both, but get the bigger kick outta steam trains. So I am starting this thread for a video dump of planes, trains etc...

Here is one to get the ball rolling...this old girl is coming up a rise with a full head of steam, and her whistle is something else...its enough to put a real tingle down my spine..

:laugh: Yeah I think a lot of us are 'machine heads' as there seems to be interest in planes, trains, guns and even dare I say the word....cars...
I've always had an interest in anything mechanical, even more so if it has an engine!

Affectionately known as the puffer, again I spent shitloads of time on here in my teenage years (also my early years as she was refurbished in St Catherines dock London) as again daddy was the man. The hiab on board is steam powered and was used to lift a section of the crane to the surface when the wellin gton bomber was being lifted from the floor of Loch Ness. (I thought we where going to tip over)

As you can gather dad was a bit of a steam nut and any pretty much every Steam Engine Rally (Traction Engines) that cropped up, dad threw me on the back of his BSA and we headed off for a weekend of coal and steam... i can even smell the engines now... Awesome machines... ahhhhhh the memories...

Hawker Sea Fury...

I saw one of these some years ago at an airshow in Hamilton. I was at Hopuhopu as it was flying over on its way back to Auckland. The sound of it made the hair stand up all over my body - it was a screaming howl as it powered through the sky - came over the horizon and was gone again in seconds...breath-taking machine - the pinnacle of piston engined aviation IMHO.

EDIT: Found a couple of clips that do the plane better justice...the second vid gives you a hint of the scream that this plane makes at speed...what a machine.

Very similar to this....

Aah the B52 pilot who thought he was a fighter pilot.
It was recommended he be stood down from flight duties for an incident some months before, but he wasn't - and that was the end result.........I've got a video of the same pilot buzzing a hilltop (and the cameraman) with about 50ft clearance in a B52.......
