Saw a woman in a large SUV reverse into a parked Ducati (a Ducati!!!!) yesterday, knock it over, and then after a brief pause for thought, she drove off...
I was in my car (sigh) and in traffic, but I got her number, pulled over as soon as I could, and went back to find the bike lying on its side being ignored by the public..
Couple of guys came over and picked it up though as I got there, and I waited for the owner and gave him the licence number of the offender.
Damage to the bike wasn't too bad.. but I could just imagine how I would have felt, were it mine...
I am certain she knew what she'd done.. you just can't account for some people..

That's shit eh?! Good on you for sticking around to give the owner the plate number. U might have to give a statement to the cops or something later. What a stink bitch for just driving off!! :2guns:

+1 Sondela. Well done...
'Cause if it was my bike and I saw the car driver do it...there would be hell to pay.

If you do talk to plod, make sure you mention that it nearly hit some pedestrians and she failed to stop and ascertain injury (they ain't big on that).
Hope the silly cow gets done. Knocking over a bike should be a capital offence.

Knocking over a bike and not stopping should involve a 'firing squad' at dawn!

This is why I never, never, never park on the road, but only on the footpath. Broke my own rule last year and some stupid women in a shitty old van backed into it. She didn't even need to backup, had plenty of room in front of her and my bike was in the middle of the car space behind her. Her only response was "Good luck getting any money outta me aye, I'm on the dole bro" :argh:

people reverse into me in traffic all the time while i am sitting on the bike (thank god), resulting in some panicked beeping (while driver wonders where it's coming from) and manic shuffling backwards (difficult, if your legs are short).
hope the ducati owner gets reimbursed in full for damage to the bike, loss of time on the road and emotional distress.

There can be no compensation sufficient to cover such unspeakable violation and emotional distress - this beautiful ducati and its owner will never be the same

Happened to me a while ago. Little asian dude (no i'm not being racist, thats what he was, asian) who couldn't see over his own steering wheel backed over my pride and joy in a 4x4. It cost him $2700.

Me too. Parked at the university, between the trees near the HSB, came back to find the bike on the ground with a note tucked into the seat: "Sorry, I hit your bike". That's all: no name or phone number. Smashed engine cover and brake lever. A few hunderd $. Now I park on the footpath.

Oi, what's this "firing squad at dawn"? What did I do?
Mind you, after reading SpankMe's account I do agree with the firing squad idea.
p.s. it's my name, for those who are wondering what I'm on about.

I've had three bikes backed into. First time, the young uninsured Japanese girl who did it left a note and then paid cash for the repairs. The second time, the driver came into the bistro I was in, found me and confessed. His insurance covered that. The third time the driver had no trouble finding me. I was on the bike at the time!

I have met the girl named Dawn that the t-shirt was based on, and I remember seeing pics of you in the thread on turning a T shirt into a dress. I can assure you that you are just as cute and almost as shapely as the Dawn in the T shirt. :devil2:

It was bad cause it could have been MY Ducati!! but it would have been just as bad if it was a Suzuki, or a Honda, or a Harley even! Hitting ANY bike is beyond redemption..
Had she hit a Harley she'd have had some dents to explain to hubby when she got home tho....

I had this happen to me once just after i got my hornet, i was in no rush to back up though and they soon knew i was there as their bumper let out and almighty crack. I backed up after that and pulled up alongside the driver to share the amusement i was having at his expense but he wouldn't make eye contact :(

A few moons ago, had a silly bitch stop VW Golf next to me at the traffic lights. Unfortunately she'd parked on my foot. Luckily I got her attention be belting her window as if she'd driven forward it would have broke my ankle or worse. No apology either. Thank goodness for proper motorcycle boots.
Moral of story:- get big fuckoff solid (scraped and bashed) panniers when filtering regularly.
Hitting bike and farking off.....isn't it time we published names and numberplates of these sorts of cunts?

Lots of people wouldn't have bothered - bling to you and a big thanks for taking the trouble to help out a fellow biker. I bet the owner was grateful to have the number plate details for his insurance company - cause that shit can get dear when you lose your no claims, it hurts even more when it wasn't your fault.

That's why you have full insurance - give the insurance company the stupid bitches details and it is there problem, usually you don't lose your no-claims if there is another driver identified who is 'at fault'.

But the cost of the damage is less than the excess, so it's not worth it.

It depends on how they do the excess - some deduct the excess and then pay you if they get it back from the other party, others don't deduct the excess and do their best to get the money from the other party. But yeah, if the excess in higher than the damage and therefore the insurance wont pay then what can you do?
Of course full insurance is pretty handy in a similar situation if the damage is much more expensive.
