It's as handy as a very handy thing but I can't see a review on here for it. So here goes...

When I got the XF650 I discovered the small screen directs airflow right at my neck. That’s not always too much of a problem around Auckland, but this winter I have found that my regular thin Buff plus fleece neck gaiter weren’t up to highway speed work in that airflow.

The combination of a rain proof layer, fleece and Gore Windstopper does exactly what I want i.e. it keeps the rain off my neck, is windproof and very comfortable. It is well made but retails for $75, so is not cheap. I managed to score one for $60 from an outdoor gear shop with a sale on.

I like the fact that it’s not just useful on the bike. The Cyclone will also be handy for skiing, tramping and the like. Another advantage of the Buff over dedicated neck plus face protection from Rev’It, Oxford, etc. is that if you need to, you can fold it into a balaclava or a beanie. That could be a useful feature in some situations.

I’ve also got a Rev’It balaclava for more extreme conditions and longer rides, but a lot of the time it is just overkill up here. The Buff Cyclone really fits the bill for me and if it was cheaper, it would be perfect!

If I ever lose it in winter, I'll head straight out to buy another one. Recommended.
