New Zealand motorcycle wiki
http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/wiki/
We have created a new space for Kiwi bikers to place their knowledge of motorcycling in New Zealand. Ever made/seen a post in the forums that was really informative, only to be lost in the deluge of drivel. Now you can place that info in the wiki where it can be easily found and referenced.
The wiki uses KB logins, so it will log you in automatically. Any member can add or update pages.
Remember, just like Kiwi Biker, we have created the wiki space.
It's up to you to provide the content.

We will also not tolerate anyone defacing pages. All updates are logged with which member made them. They also can be easily backed out.

I have kindly (or stupidly) volunteered to collate content for the wiki and I can't do it alone!
As you can see, the wiki is currently a skeleton layout, which doesn't have much content. We need to start pumping content into it.
If you want to help out with entering information, please fire me a PM and I'll help you get started.

Ahh, what do you need to do to get started? Don't you just start randomly entering content?

Yes, you can and I see you already have been! It pays to have some form of collaboration so we can be aware of what each other is writing.

With wikis people just adopt jobs and content they like and go for it.
You will get formatters, indexers, grammaticists, tech writers, editorials.. and on it goes. Everyone just does what they enjoy, and it works.
Looking forward to seeing the tech section unroll.

I am not sure Wiki's need collaboration. The concept is self editing and management.

Hm. I recall a gentleman named Ambrose Bierce. He was rather good at that sort of thing.

Wasn't the wiki created a long long time ago? Or was that another site's...

Yes, I realise that. I want to start putting content into the skeleton myself and don't want to write something that someone else is already in the process of doing!

I think a section for each major manufacturer of bike should also be added, in much the same way we have a section for each part of the country.

This wiki is for New Zealand specific info only. No point in putting general info about bike models when that info is already well covered elsewhere on the net.

Cool me thinks.
See the red and yellow tag above.
I haven't quite figured out how it all works but a one source thing looks good.
Thunder Valley and Kimmy's can be added for the dirt places. Also places to do adventure riding. It can become a comprehensive encyclopedia. Mind boggling stuff.

Is it possible to make the Wiki launch into a new tab/browser?
Or is it meant to be seen as part of the KB site?

Upload images to the wiki. You can not embed/hotlink. Don't forget to add your page to the appropriate region category.

Might need a different title. Also needs to be added to a category. Spell & grammar check wouldn't go amiss either. :p

I saw the wiki a couple of years ago, and it was pretty inactive, but I thought it had potential. So I was chatting to a mate yesterday about the benefits of wikis, and pointed out that there was this wiki which might benefit from a bit of publicity and a few keen editors adding content on ride routes and the like. I got home and found the wiki had disappeared!
Is this a temporary situation, or has someone decided to pull the plug on this resource? If the latter, are there any other NZ motorcycle wikis which allow the public to edit?

It's not a wiki as such but http://www.adventureridingnz.co.nz/ has many adventure routes and tracks and members can submit new tracks to the site.

Thanks for that link. It's not what I had in mind, but I'll certainly use it to plan adventure rides. I do like a bit of roughage!
