Might be keen, sat or sunday, whichever is nicest weather suits me best. (EDIT: Sunday looking better for me)
But will have to see how work pans out.

Slow paced? Been off the bike for the last couple of months, I want to ease back into it.

Will probably just join you for the Raglan end of things (coming from Auck), might do a SH22 or maybe a Port Waikato on the way down, then back via relatives in Horotiu

Jeepers mate, you must have been busy, or just hate riding in the cold!

Looks like I am going to have to pass on this one, too much stuff going to justify a day away on the bike. Might try for a casual afternoon outing tho. Have to be semi local.

Taking the bike around the forestry this weekend. Leslie road and around the back down through to Puriri Rd etc...exploring the tracks in between. I have a good route made now as I have done it three or four times....
So, if you want something different?
Mark, you keen?

Hey Andy you would follow HW22 to the end to a place called Te uku where there is a general store and petrol pump. We would be there at 10.30.

Be good to have you along if your keen, some great gravel rds - beaches and tracks to hoon on and the infamous tri boy / crisis management stream :shit:crossings :yes:

Anyone know how far you can get up Vandy Road near Te Uku?

Used to live just down the road from there, Vandys Rd is about 10 kms long to the top. There used to be access to a track ( full on enduro type in summer ) that goes over the ranges to shea Rd at Makomako but the farm was purchased a few years ago by 1 of the local gangs and access has been illegaly blocked off. Their house is the only 1 on the road and they dont encourage visitors. :2guns: :2guns::angry:

Yes I'm in. Just changed both tyres on the KTM. Trying to con Baldyman to come along too, That'll be another DRZ if he does. Will see you at Te Uku at 10:30. What kinda fuel range is required? <200km?

I went up to Vandy road a few months ago. It is mentioned in Andy Cockroft's book. Got about a kilometre up there. Contour is not challenging that far, and it is an OK track, but there is definite discouragement to going there in the way of a big drain to get through at the entrance, and with so few people going there it was pretty overgrown with gorse. Had my son on the back (10, and he walked more than rode!) and was bashing gorse most of the way, and spent weeks digging the prickles out.

No fun at all really. I would walk it before trying again, but likely not worth persisting with.

Yeah Anthrax rides like that, I am convinced he thinks there is some issue with the front wheel bearings on the 525 wearing out, so he is just trying to avoid that.

Wished I could have made it out today, managed a quick ride after a couple of hours fixing the 690. But did not even hit any gravel :bye:

Can you upload my gps route from Mapsource. The link is at the bottom in my signature.
Download google Earth and export from mapsource, there is a button.
It then sends the track we did t google and you can see the roads, the tracks etc and our route.

:done:On ya! Thanks....Can you upload the tracks and routes without Mapsource then by just saving them as .kmz? I have Google Earth Pro, I cannot see how to upload the tracks without opening Mapsource first, then using the send to link...
I have since found out that if I upload everything to the GPS I can transfer it all to Google Earth directly. I can then save the folder to browse. Really it is quite clever...

Eddieb
10th August 2009, 14:06
Mark, if you save the files from Mapsource as .GPX rather than the .GDB format Mapsource defaults to you can still use them in Mapsource and they can be loaded straight into GoogleEarth.

That means you don't to do all the import/export faffing about as Googelearth supports the .GPX format.

Hi Mark, thanks for organising a great ride, I hope you guys had a good ride at Taharoa after Deano & I had left. Did Andy hassle the locals?

Yes parts of that sand got the better of me, when you shut off the throttle on the big KTM all the weight transfterred forward and front washed out, was good fun on that bit of track all the same. The more I ride this thing the better it responds. But shit picking it up really is tough, twice.

See you all at the next South Aucklan Gravel Bash, I sure Iain is looking for some water crossings to keep up the standards.
