I bought a Sanyo 8500 today which is a cdma telecom and does not have xt, the reason is because i don't want to pay another $8 a month for 500 less txts (im on boost monsta txt) i wont need a new phone in 2011 will I?
i heard all 027's will switch to xt, just hope i dont have to get a new phone when the time comes.
because mine is set-up for 2G and doesnt have a sim it might not work or something i thought.
please shed some light over the matter. cheers

It will be the same as when they phased out the 025's. So in short, yes in time you will need to buy a new phone.:whocares::bye:

Which is why I will *never* buy a Telescum mobile. I have in front of me right now a perfectly good Telecom prepaid mobile.

Technically it works perfectly , does all it's owner (Mrs Ixion) ever required, and would almost certainly keep on doing so for the rest of her time on this planet. Except that it doesn't do anything, because there is no longer a network for it to connect to. It is an expensive paperweight, and a glaring condemnation of wastefulness of the world's resources.

Telecom = epic FAIL.

An unfortunate side effect of rapid advances in technology is that equipment becomes obsolete the day it goes on sale. Economics of scale means it is impractical to continue supporting old technology even though there is in fact nothing wrong with it and it still works fine.

Not so much willful waste as such, but very fast progress in technology forcing waste of otherwise perfectly useful things.

Sad, perhaps, for those of us who do not need such whizzbangery, but a reality we can do little about.:bye:

Im not real worried because 8 bucks a month over 24 months is the value of the phone (200 at noel lemming, 300 at dicksmith lol) so yeah

Shortly after I bought my first 025,they said analogue was being phased out,this was 1998,(took 7-8 yrs or so)then I went 021 with trade in so I could text mates,then went back to 027 when another trade offered,so not worried for now that the cdma will be disolved immediately.

According to TelstraClear it's going to be around until 2012 so plenty of time to worry about it...

LOL!!! Yep, but by then most will be ready for a replacement phone anyway. The way things are moving there could be some significant changes in the next three years, not only in technology but in service providers and plans as well.

The whole communications industry is in a state of rapid advancement and changes. it's a case of "Watch this space!"
