Hey this has probably be discussed elsewhere - but could you fill me in on what this class is about? Is it the 250 4 strokes that run with the 150 2 strokes/
thanks

About 4 years ago Canterbury and Southland introduced the idea of 250 fours into Streetstock to create more options for young riders, some who might have been riding such bikes on restricted licences etc on the road. But it didn't really take on with the explosive growth of the 150 two strokes showing it wasn't going to change anything positively. We quit it when we considered that a certain model of 250 four was way too quick and thus upset the balance of Streetstock. Even worse it discriminated against our target rider, the 13 / 14 year old who were unable to ride them for licencing reasons.
From all this came the idea of adopting 250 twins, as they were available new, and very popular. The twin, we believe, will not "clean up" in Streetstock as the 250 four could before. The MNZ rules are still in draft form, not likely to be "current" until Jan 1st or later July 1st 2010.
In the meantime Motorcycling Canterbury welcomes the 250 twin immediately in Streetstock. Basic rules are min mods allowed to make trackworthy. Pretty well as per 150cc SS so read up these rules and you'll be pretty right

I'll be there for KOR rnd 1...
Oyster, will it be a race inside a race so to speak,or will it be an all in format? Im kinda hoping I'll be the only one out there so that I might win a race for once:shifty:

It will be "all in" tho if you're over 19 you'll be scored separate as an oldie. Our club rules ask for the granddads to have red numbers on white to identify themselves. Believe me it's a lot easier to win in the oldies category so there is a bonus!
You may well be the first to get underway with this new spec of bike in Streetstock so people like Kev Goddard, our Road Race Board member will be very interested to see how it all works out.
So you will be the xxxx test xxxxx.
Keep in touch and thanks for your initiative and interest.

Red numbers on white it is then....Im waiting to hear back from MNZ re the eligibility of my spada as its a grey import, but Im not going to race anywhere else than with MCC so Im sort of in Limbo 'till then....what do you think of a 20 year old bike,Im just wondering if I'll have grief at scruitineering, not 'cause its dodgey, but it being a grey import.
Its off to Lester's in Nelson next week for a tune up & will not do anything to it till I know the regs for the class, which I understand are being finalised at the moment.
Hope I can handle the stress of being the centre of attention, a lab rat so to speak.:sweatdrop
Im really looking fwd to getting out there, I ran in Clubmans last year which I really enjoyed & I was stoked with my results, but alot of the time I was running around by myself & not learning much, whereas in the 150ss there were large fields with a lot of close racing:woohoo:
Im also very impressed with MCC....Im glad Im a member of such an "on to it" club:yes:

Scruntineering only look at the safety of the bike and whether it is trackworthy. It is not a scrutineers responsibilty to check the bike is eligible for the class it is entered in. That is up to the rider to ensure their bike complies with the rules of the class. I can't see it being a grey import being a problem, unless they are deemed ineligible in the rules for the class?
Interesting to see the times from Levels yesterday, the fastest buckets were quicker than the fastest 150cc Streetstocks!

Streetstock were all on rubbish tyres that don't work in the wet

Yep, and the other problem is some of these kids in Streetstock have only raced 15 to 20 times / for 2 years and being in Canterbury, often that means they've never seen a wet track before.....
Seriously tho, it was greasy rather than wet, very tricky as it looks like a bit of "dry line" grip, but it isn't there. Ask the 6 bucketeers parked over by the tyre wall of turn 4 in the second race!

Hi all.
The new 250 twin class rules are very close to release but I am afraid import bikes are not eligable due to the need to have them homologated and the difficulty with so many different models/versions it would be a disaster to police. All bikes must be NZ new and at least 50 of them need to be sold or on sale.
I know it sort of flys in the face of cheap bikes and bums on seats but we need to consider the enforcement side of the rules as well.

The fast buckets were on slicks, and we know they don't work in the wet because MNZ told us so:shifty:

I you intend running only at MCI club level put it to them, they may be happy if you put a good case forward about the bike? If you are going to run at the Nationals.......ya screwed.

being a streetstock rider i can agree that the tyres are rubbish in the wet, they arent spectacular in the dry either, a good slick will work better in the wet than a worn tt900. i can prove this winning the 1st race but crashing the second and being taken out by a plonker in the third

Not planning to race the Nationals, pretty much just Ruapuna, streetraces.
Had a good talk with Oyster today & he was very helpful...he will talk with the commitee, but it'll probably be only a compromise 'till the rules come into force in early 2010.
He also raised several good points about the class which I agree with, but dont want to go into here.....
As Kickaha & also Oyster said ,theres always CAMS/pre 89...

Well someone had to be first & it ended up being me....first (& only)250 twin in streetstock, but behind 8 or 9 2smokers across the line. Worst thing was sitting in a cloud of smoke waiting to get out for the warm up lap:sick:
Had a great day out with all the midgets (man them kids are quick!!) & I was really impressed with how polite they were & the interest they showed in my bike ,as well as the skill they showed on the track:clap::2thumbsup
Im stoked with my choice in class, as I have learnt a lot already & I must thank those who gave me such positive feedback.
It was interesting to see how the twin stacked up with the 2 strokes & it's pretty damn even in a straight line, but they dealt to me in & out of the corners, but Im working on that:shifty:
Great to put faces to fellow KB'ers too.
:woohoo: Bring on round 3!!

Yeah it was cool to see how it ran with all us 2stroke riders without any major performance difference. And it was good to have a chat to you about the bike. And all the kids out in front have had a Lot of time on the track on their bikes so to slot straight in to ~ 9th was well done.
See ya at round 3?

Yup, sometimes it pays to be the first into a new class....
After racing on Saturday, I along with heaps of others went to MCC's prizegiving in Ferrymead & what a great evening that was!!
Everyone was in good form, especially the Club president who was on cloud nine I think, & was tap dancing around on crutches after fracturing his Pelvis the week before....I wouldnt've minded some of what he was having:doctor::rockon:
Anyhow....I was rather surprised to hear my name mentioned in the proceedings & on wandering up found that I was the winner of Streetstock Senior K.O.R 2009:first::gob:
Being the only one at this stage in the class I think may have helped my results:whistle: But it sure looks good on the shelf!!
I tried to say a few words of thanks at the time, but being overwhelmed by the love for my fellow competitors etc pretty much only dribble came out so I was glad that the mic didnt want to repeat it:o
I would like to thank MCC.Alot.
Peter Jones especially, but also Jock Woodley too,who have given advice & tips & no end of encouragement:niceone:
Also the club & its members are just generally awesome folk,& Im very proud to be amongst such outstanding members of Society;)
Lastly, to my fellow competitors In Streetstock I just want to say that I am so very impressed with the talent & manners of you young riders & I had the bestest of times racing & learning from you all.
Its a shame that so few young folk have an opportunity to do this as I truly believe that not only are we helping some of the best up & coming racers, but some of the finer young folk in our community that will no doubt go onto greater things in thier lives & become the mentors & heroes of the future.
Looking forward to the future, Im just hoping next year I can repeat the result when there may be another bike or 2 out there:D
