Hiya all I went out and brought Devils Motard, its a KTM 690sm, not exactly a race motard but it is the best road going motard on the market featuring the worlds most powerful single the LC4.

I have clocked up about 400 kms so far and I have to say I cant imagine a better bike for NZ roads, its nimble its fast (but not dum fast) and its a complete riot ! its comfy, its cheap and its consumables will be low.
20kms per litre and I can go any where with it (mostly)

so here it is, Im in love !

It came with

screen (shown in pic)
Full set of plastics
3 sets race tyres
ventura
Oxford hand warmers
KTM tank bag
other stuff I cant think of right now

Obviously it's not a tourer and won't be good for a 200Kph blat down the motorway.

"cant imagine a better bike for NZ roads"

As a getting from A to B and riding absolutely everywhere:

I suspect you are spot on there.

Congrats on a great choice.

Yeah its so nice to ride open road its unreal, typically these things dance all over the road but this is as solid as arnie 30 years ago, then to the twistys "MY GOD" power is massive for a 690 (652) loving it !

Isn't it mounted back to front? The grooves would be pushing water towards the centre of the tyre the way it is won't it? I'm confused...

Top purchase man. A friend and I were discussing this very bike the other day and decided that it was indeed the perfect bike for fun on the road and pretending we were 19 again. Except we wont have pimples and we will have girlfriends.
Alas, the demon of financial bastardry ensured our dreams would remain unfulfilled.

I really dig the 690... I'd have to agree it's the most capable street motard on the market, but I'm not exactly in love with the looks of it. Anyway, congratulations on the purchase I am sure there'll be many fun hours ahead on that thing... and when you are on it you won't have to look at it anyway. :chase:

(Yes, I am slightly envious - it's got more power than mine, it's most likely more comfortable and it has better fuel economy too.)

nope its correct, come and have a look mate lol

I too have noticed how the thread patterns are oriented opposed front and rear - I'd have to assume it has to do with the direction in which the tyre is delivering it's traction (rear - acceleration and front - braking). At least that's the hypothesis I'll stick with until I get to talk to a tyre designer.

Whats the point in one of those if you get whipped by a 50hp motard tho :2guns:

Easy, thats second best. The 990SM is the best, because it also makes a reasonable tourer, oh, and wheelies are easier

You do have sliiiighty better fuel economy (read fucken heaps better) :crybaby:

Not me mate, I was down in Taupo, went down State 1 (account of black ice) and came back the preferred route via mangakino

Bike is awesome, loving it !!

When I saw that photo you posted I thought you had mistakenly assumed Quasi was meaning the track. That didn't look like any kind of road bike I'd want for a wart on my arse. A crucifixion might be only marginally less comfortable...

I think it definately depends on the road... And the riders mentality... It is good for anything up to about 120/130, after that, a sportbike would be better. Where the KTM feels all loose and skitterish, a sportbike is still planted and effortless.

You cant have been near a 690 then hehe, planted and spanking to 150.

Lets just say I know enough to know the pros and cons of each... And yes, specifically referring to a 690SM...

Anything tight and twisty, yes, the 690 is awesome. Personally, I just prefer a sportbike...

BTW, have fun on it Quasi... They are fun for what they are...
