I want to take the glass out of one and put into another. How can I do this with as little bad luck as possible?. Can't find anything on the net.

tried this myself once on my van mirrors, little tabs of plastic welded together round the outside, so broke them with a screwdriver, pulled out the mirror, then when i put it back together just melted the plastic again with a soldering iron. Its worth noting that i broke one of the mirrors when breaking the tabs though. Also the whole shebang probly depends on what sorta mirror you have anyways.

Some have rubber beads around holding the glass in - some types use a round bead all around the outside applying pressure against glass while others will extend as a sheet behind the mirror as well. Usually pressed in and not really designed to come out without a fight.
If your worried and/or it is a decent mirror surround it would be very cost effective to nip down to your local glassy and get them to do it.

I did this with my MV. Would you believe the glass was held in place with double sided tape?

As a glazier...you'll be lucky to get it out in one piece, it'll either be glued, or taped in, or you'll munt the rim trying to get it out. Take it to a glazier & he'll cut you one the right diameter , if youre lucky it shouldnt cost you more than 10-15 bucks....

I've successfully removed a mirror glass from a VFR750 mirror and put it into a VFR400 (same shape). All I did was heat up the pastic surround with a hot air gun, and carefully levered the glass out. The only tricky bit was the 400's mirror housing was a tad muntered from a crash, so I had to use some silicon to make it secure.

Will have to do this. The mirror is a bit munted now thanks to my effort. I can't imagine getting it out without shattering with how thick the rim is.
