The best R1 road tyre?

...not talking about best deals, but the best tyre as such?

The tyres on my '02 R1 that's just arrived has Dunlop D208F RR Sportmax Race Replicas, 120/70 front and 190/50 rear currently on it. When the time comes, assuming $ wasn't part of the decison equation (within the bounds of retail reason, nicking off with Spies qualifier tyres...)... the riding situation will be mainly open road riding, tarseal, dry (as much as you can predict a northern Auckland fine day)...I want the stickiest most likely to keep in contact with the road type tyres? Tyre longevity....pffft. Staying upright is the aim.

GERMANS are very fussy at engineering the very best product that can be made, they have a huge rep for just that in all products they deal with!!!!!!

Conti's are the best tyres i've had...
will definately replace the Pilot Powers with em when the time comes.

We all seem to ride with Pilot Road 2. Very reliable and user friendly tyre. R1's included in the 'we all'

Conti's seem to suit me better than any other tyre I've had
Cold, hot, wet, dry - slippery conditions, I have confidence in them, and that's what matters

do they warm up very quickly? ive heard they take a while to get a good bit of temp in them? could be bull shit but its what i heard. i do a bit of winter riding so that would be a problem for me.

can you please clear that up for me shaun because apart from that they are top of my list.

I had conti Road Attacks on my hornet,
bloody good for winter riding,(any riding really)
warm up hell of a lot faster than the PP's i've got on the R1,
had a few scares with the PP's
Had them (R/A's) on during last winter(ride to work daily)no probs,
no slides or scares,no need to slow down when raining.

The Road Attack has all angles covered dude, they are called Road Attack, because they are desinged for Road use, They warm up fine man.

In fact, I rate them that much as an extremely fantastic all round tyre, that if you were to purchase a set through my biz, and have ME fit, so I know the wheels have been ballanced corectly 100% and the correct pressures used, I will "GAURANTEE" to give you your money back 100% if you were to be not happy with them!!!!!

I could slag and knock many different brands on the market, especially the market place in NZ with all the OLD stock tyres that some of the importers import, ( Why, because they can make more money by purchasing old stock out of Europe ( CHEEP) and selling it here ,But hey, My GAURANTEE speaks for itself I believe.

Other people may say the same thing about pp and others, COOL, stay happy and safe out there folks, but you know who to contact, if if, you want to try another side of life.

It's a case of you'll get a shit load of opinions but in the end you'll just have to try them for yourself.

Saying that here's my thoughts.. :laugh:

Michelin Pilot Powers have never given any serious moments.

The only serious OMG! moments i've had have been on Conti SportAttacks.

Have used Conti RaceAttacks with no issue other than they lasted five minutes so to speak, they are the only Continental tyre i'd use again though.

There is also a new Michelin race based tyre available now called the "Power One". You might like to try the road based version of that... If you do you let us know how they go... :laugh:
Got a mate with a 955i Daytona who's quite keen on trying a set but has quite a few km's to go on his current tyres as yet.

In my experiences to date I found the Michelin Pilot Power 2ct's more than enough grip for any "reasonable" road rider while lasting acceptably well.

They would wear out super quick, they are designed to be used for race purposes hense the name. Race tyres used on the race track get up to the desired operating temp that they have been desigend to operate in, using them on the road, will NEVER allow them to get to this temp, no matter how how you try, and I do lnow a little bit about riding bikes fast on the road

I think the rear tyre was around the $390 mark... can't remember and the front...
What I do recall was they were a good 10-15% more expensive for something that lasted about 60% of the distance of the PP's. Not really comparing apples with apples mind, it was an economics thing first and foremost.
