Hi
I'm just wanting to know if anyone gives lessons riding moto x in Auckland. I don't have a bike or any gear. I wanna get some lessons first to see if I really like it before getting all the gear! If anyone can help that would be great...

Tony, from the Sandpit, KTMBoy hires bikes out there, with gear! I'm sure if you contacted him he'd be able to help you with that! Chris Burch does lessons at The Sandpit also! Also Spectrum Motorcycles on the North Shore has a hire bike as well!

The first time I ever went on a bike was on sand, and to be honest I was ready to throw my bike into the ocean by the end of it. I wouldn't recommend learning on sand for your very first ever time....

Agreed! I took my Daughter out on sand last summer, now she won't go back on sand. Even though I tell her its quite different on wet sand its still no go? I'll have to wait now till she rides Dirt well enough to feel she can handle the sand!
Personally I'm quite enjoying the sand!

Yes, we do have a couple of hire bikes. One is a KLX140 which is just ideal to learn on. Despite our name (Kawasaki Sandpit) we do actually have a grass paddock to learn on. Learner training can be arranged.
Riding on soft summer sand is hard, however, the winter sand is firm and compact which is very easy to ride on.
Its like most things. The first couple of times I went skiing I was frustrated and just wanted to give it all away. But after a couple of days you cetainly get the bug.
Hey, nobody said it was easy. But it is great fun!!

My girl learnt at the sandpit, but that was back at the old carpark. in the Family area, that was an awesome spot for teaching. it helped her get her confidence up, the thing is you didn't have to ride all the way back to where the carpark is now which is what puts alot of newbies off, specially in summer when the sand is real soft, (yea I love it) just trying to get there, and then have to ride back.
Could do with an area like that closer too the carpark, you got a peewee track and a juinor track.

As I've been told over and over, if you can ride on the sand, you can ride anywhere. I learnt on the track right near the car park and it was awesome. I learnt in January and it was hard and the sand was soft, but it was worth it! If you've got the determination and a real passion for riding you'll swear and curse and come back and do it all over again! It's so worth it! I would ride for about 20 minutes, pack up and go home! Now I ride twice a week. The Sandpit rocks!!! There's a group of us girls that ride on a Wednesday. There's all different levels of riders! Might see you there one day.

Summer 08/09 at the sandpit and woodhill family rides is where I learnt to ride, it's 'character building' and you can faceplant as many times as you want and only break a visor or two - no bones  Lovely soft sand...
How much is the 140 to hire ktmboy?

Yet to update the website with the KLX 140 inclusion(few others on the way)
Same price as the KDX200.
But hey, I'm open to help teach folks the basics on riding. Who knows, it could be the Kawasaki Sandpit Off Road Riding Academy one day soon.

That wasn't the sand's fault, it was the alligators!

My coaching is not about riding faster or looking cool- it will teach you how to look after your new pride and joy and how to stay safe in a potentially hostile environment and get home safe. Emphasis is on negotiating the grotty hills and wet bits that you will come across on any ride in the back country. And how to work as a team to get your bikes through the nasty bits.
Plus punctures, drowned bikes, bogged bikes, broken bikes and setting up your bike to be more reliable - years of tricks and tips, like putting an old handgrip over your vunerable radiator hoses to make them more puncture resistant
