2) Whanga track - MXnut deserved a "10" for the hi speed rut lay down into double somersault down the bank. I for one was impressed. He wasn't in a hurry to stand back up tho :lol:

This weekend the max distance would have been 150km's. 200kms to reserve will get you thru most rides. Junkmanjoe always has some spare for a price.

Great roads, great tracks and great company.
Was a bloody good weekend, did a smidge over 1200km a very good percentage of that was gravel.
Great work on the camera Anthrax and cheers for the tui's

Thankfully I can pick up the R80 pretty quickly, so far nothing incriminating.
It was a fantastic weekend. Thanks again to all the guys who saved my bacon and helped to push and pull when needed. Especially the guys who picked up my bike and dusted me off, after my little off.
Oh, and thanks to the guys for collecting all the stuff that kept falling out of my tail-bag, and finally the bag itself. That bag needs to be tweaked just a little, of course, closing the zipper properly would go a long way.
Almost forgot, great pics Anthrax. Where did you find the time to take all these? :-).

Yep great weekend from start to finish.
Plenty of falls but not too much damage to either rider or bike.
That fall of Marks(MXNUT) on the Wanga track was a doozey! Did look like it hurt (sorry about picking the DRZ up before the pic Andy!)
Those that didn't do the Wanga Rd, it was worth the commute......:bleh:

:2thumbsup to GS rider(?) on Fishers & Mark(NZKTM, Wanga Rd) for doing those rides on intermediate tyres, rather you than me!
Will post my pics when the camera dries out...........

Just previewing the first of the video footage, I had to look for one particular shot first of course. The footage isn't great as the camera wasn't mounted very well, too hurriedly done seeing as I changed bikes at the last minute.
I haven't got any data left to upload a vid but here's a pair of stills from it, the camera never lies Alex.

We did 42nd one way, some of the guys did Fishers both ways, and we did Whanga both ways, and it rocked!

By the time I got back onto the seal just sth of Pirongia, my muscles were going into shut down mode.
Mark has to head nth soon, as there were no KlR/lawn mowers to be seen anywhere. (except I thought I saw one in the river, but it turned out to be a boat. Easily mistaken):innocent:

I am keen!
A few of us did them both ways, the fishers was way more fun on the way back up.
I kinda wished I had done the 42nd both ways, but was feeling pretty tired and wanted to save some energy for the ride back up to auckland (and I really really really wanted a beer), but I am glad I did because the route back north was so much fun.

For the company and the ride together on the Whangamomona Rd...
Yes, it was like skating on ice, the bike wanted to go wherever and a couple of times it went in a different direction without me!
Not to worry, the ride was awesome and I was very suprised how well the Scorpion tyres go...
They do fill with clay farily quickly but they also empty out if you give it a few beans out of the mud/clay! :2thumbsup
I follwed a nice toute home through the back roads to Urenui, I stuck to the metal and single laners and it was great, not one car for the wholr trip to the main highway:2thumbsup
The bike is sitting in the rain and I am making the most of the squalls that are rumbling through, this will save a bit of elbow grease for cleaning!

The bike decided to take the wrong route every time, the back wanted to overtake the front occasionally and the front wanted to dance with the back the rest of the time....
I really had no control on the very slippery parts, but it was fun and it made me realise how well the bike performs without a rider on it.....:2thumbsup

Eddie and my self started our weekend trip at 5:30am and headed for whanganui river road...
we arrived at national park about 10:30 ish..thanks all for waiting for us..
and headed for the best mud feast in two days ive had in a very long time..
a few photos and rest can be view in my on line albums.
ill will return on the second attack of theses tracks with out fail..

good to see pics up.. the 42 looked a hoot. defo keen to give it a go next time. i'll have to have a sniff thru pics, but strangely i didn't get much chance to take many, what with forever picking up my bike! there's lots of pics of cows from the way down tho..
well, a big :2thumbsup to all you guys, and a big thanks to all who helped me out of the clay all those times! what a crackin weekend tho, loved it. and an education to boot. lesson: maybe invest in at least one proper tyre next time. :argh:

Will be slow paced, plenty of rest stops to check out the views.
Will most probably get lost a few times.
Plenty of options to bail out to short-cuts/main roads if things are taking longer than expected.
Plan to stay at the pub at Owhango on friday night.
Joining the group Saturday 9am at National Park for the Fishers/42nd traverse tracks.
I then plan to see how I feel with heading back up, might stay somewhere local, even maybe the Owhango hotel again, or make my way back up to visit relatives near Hamilton. Or even back to up to Auckland.
Anyone keen to join me?

I've checked the gearbox oil. The level hasn't changed and it still had its usual shade of black. My grommet is new and I zip-tied the top of it. Still, I will change it sooner rather than later.
I let the final drive drain all afternoon, before filling it again. The R80 is clearly not a submarine :-).

With fishers, you have 2 options, take the muddy rut, or take the slightly less muddy rut right beside the drop off. Eddie was just taking the easier line.
Damn that was a fun track. I was tempted to head back down and do it again on sunday AM.

Way to pick a line...:crazy:
When your Massey Ferguson will plow just through the mud you can take any line you want, including the fun muddy bit.
But as C.H.R.I.S points out, the dry(er) line was still pretty slippery and was uncomfortably close to and sloped towards a considerable dropoff so I took that one.

Hmmm...what browser? It's got a whole lot of weird control characters in it for me.
Try it again (http://cid-bb884029fa7d6889.skydrive.live.com/browse.aspx/Riding/2009-09-26%20and%2027%20-%20Central%20Plateau) I renamed the folder so there were less weird characters for Microsoft to get upset over.

good work on the vid eddie, lookin forward to the next. and man, that does look a slippery kind of beast.. sorta half glad/half gutted i missed that one..
and pleased to say i've hammered some life (and miraculously a WOF) back into my beast of burden, and eyed up a fancy rear tyre for next time. maybe; all those pics of me picking it up (nice one nooles!) conjure up a wonderful sense of nostalgia. much like wetting the bed, it's both warming and embarressing..

The 42nd Traverse.
Not so happy with this one either, and I had to compress it a bit more than usual as the half gig uploads to youtube are killing my broadband allowance. Alex may not like it much either.

Thanks for that Eddie. I'll be signing autographs at the next ride.
I still don't know what happened, but I think the front end started to slip, and it looks like I've upset the balance by trying to put a foot down. Then I accelerated, but being to close to the bank made the engine guard dig in. It rapidly turned to poop after this.
You can see how I've lost a bit of enthusiasm after that little fall. But thankfully the rest of the ride went without an incident.
My right hand is almost fully functional again and the rainbow colours have disappeared.
Lessons learnt: Stay away from the guy with the camera!!!:yes:

That's what I tried and I still fell and injured myself on fishers. My knee only hurt when we stopped so was best to keep riding. It is getting better everyday only notice a twinge occasionally now. At least the scab on my forehead has gone.
