I am fairly new to motorcycling - although I have done a solo back country trail bike tour through northern Laos. When I did this trip I carried tyre levers, wrenches for the wheel nuts, spare tubes and patches. Thankfully I didn't get any punctures.

I was just wondering what people do when they go out say for a weekend day trip or something - I imagine most people don't carry all the kit for a puncture repair?

What happens if you are in the middle of no where?

The main tool you need to take with you is - cell phone. Call for help.

I have an Innovation brand puncture kit under my seat. HAs pugs patches and even tyre inflators in the kit. Handiest thing ever.

Most modern tubeless tyres don't go down suddenly, even with a nail in them.

A good idea, but some areas are still suspect with cell phone coverage, so I would rather rely on fixing the problem.

When I go on trips I take either a can of tyre weld or a BMW CO2 plug kit. Tyre weld will munter the tyre so I don't use it on new rubber. Those Gryyp emergency kits look like they are similar to the BMW one.

I have used both (mainly for other riders) and they work as a get you home measure.

Also I have used AA plus to get me home in the past. Nothing left to patch after running over a gangnail. At least I had the time to arrange a new rear on the trip in the truck.

yeah i think if your touring around NZ on your bike you deffinatley need tubeless tyres and just take a patch care kit with you untill you can replace or fix the tyre

If its in your rear wheel you can ride it home! As long as I didn't put any sort of power through the wheel it was fine. Wobbly 30k/h all the way home! Not the smartest thing I did, but it was 11 at night, so I just had my blinker on and managed to nurse it home.

Point taken bout the cellphone coverage but I'd still rely on the cellphone and AA for punctures.
Don't want to jinx myself but the only puncture i've had while riding happened when I rode over something while cornering going down a steep hill at speed :shit: ...result....not pretty. Back of the bike did the big fish and I went flying over the armco. Obviously the last thing I wanted to do was fix the puncture.
I have come out to my bike after work and found the tyre flat (slow leak). Then it was a simple case of ring the shop and they picked it up and fixed it.
