I managed to sprain my wrist at the Wires Track. Its painful to do turning movements like use a screwdriver and moving my hand upwards.

So what is the best thing for it? I'd guess that heaps of you guys have done this before. I sprained it at the T100 and its not as bad as that, but its not feeling good.

I'm taking nurofen and applying lots of antiflam.

Was that an opening invitation? Coz I ain't biting.

Cheesels:
Let it settle for a day or two and then gradually start your stretching exercises. Plenty of rubbing to get the circulation going too. Any warming cream will do. All that other bullshit cream, you know the stuff I mean, just soothes the mind. It's the rehab exercises is the important bit.
Time is the greatest healer. Hopefully in time to continue your great run in the 2man!

How did you do that, putting all that gas in the shit box give you RSI????

Go get some Voltaren anti-inflammatory cream from the chemist and apply regularly.

Once the swelling goes down the pain will reduce.

Oh, and the only real cure for it - rest.

Beat me to it.

That's terrible advice, it'll only exacerbate the problem! :dodge:

Seriously though, RICE it? If you're a desk jockey you might find using an alternate kind of mouse like a gaming mouse or tablet less painful. Tablet's done wonders for my RSI.

If it is swelling, then the number one priority is to get rid of the swelling. Regular icing and anti inflamatory creams are best.

If there is no swelling, the the pain will go quite quickly however getting upto screwdriving strength will take time. The damaged tissues need to be stimulated to make them start healing the muscle tears and adhere back to their correct place.

It all depends upon the severity of the injury however physio is the only was to ensure a fast recovery that will be strong. If you don't do this, you will find that the injury reoccurs (in a minor form) on a regular basis. It all needs to be put back to how it was before and physio is the best way to do that.

Good luck.

How do you know it is only a sprain have you been and had it checked out properly?

Last time I thought I had sprained my wrist it turned out to be a broken schapoid

Took a beginner lady riding last year, she managed to 'slap' a pine tree with an open hand (didn't fall off) continued the days riding cause she was loving it and she thought she'd just sprained her wrist. 3 months in plaster with a broken Scaphoid....Not a good blood supply to that area. Stop all activity that aggravates it and have it checked Cheese.................One of the very few "clmintie bits" that hasn't been bashed...yet

I spained my ankle at indoor net ball 3 weeks ago, (thought it will be all right) just run it off. Didn't work. Massive amounts of swelling and brusing. Didn't take anytime off work, as self imployed. one week later after constent nagging from every one, i went to the doctor. X-rayed it to make sure, nothing broken and now im getting physio twice a week. And it still hurts to walk. Healing alot faster now with physio, then if i left it to do its own thing.

Physio reackons Don't rest it, use it. Helps to promote blood flow to the injury for faster healing.

My advice is go and see the physio.
And the only cost was the X-ray of 30 dollars. Every thing else has been ACC.

I just called the physio and they said don't use it. They also said it sounds just like a sprain and have probably done some ligament damage. Its still sore and not feeling any better since Sunday. I'm just worried about it coming right for the 2 man.

Rupe - you're a smart arse.

Now I'm not limp wristed like yourself, that you blame on your hammering.... Hammering what?? Huh?? LOL

I'll find out tomorrow whats wrong, quite likely that I have ligament damage.

No tea pot inpersonations here. Go back to your morris dancing.

Last time I sprained my wrist (riding) I got serious with a bucket of water & party ice (too slack to bother usually). Made a huge difference & it came right much quicker.

When I was ready to ride again I used my boxing wraps (long elastic bandage type thing with loop for thumb on one end, velcro on other end) for extra support, they work a treat. I have thin girly type wrists and should probably use them all the time.

I had a similar problem at the motard event at taupo on the weekend. Crashed in practice, got the ambo to have a look and thought it was sprianed. But some ice and cod water on it, did my 4 races, and still giving my gib on monday, went to doctors, got x-ray, broken wrist. Waiting for ortopetdic(sp) appointment to know what the go is.

I did mine six months ago. I could have sworn it was broken. But the doctor disagreed. I'm just a wusss apparently.

Anyway, they treated it like a break. Plastered it up, told me not to use it for 6, yes SIX, weeks. It took about 2 months before I could ride again. It still hurts sometimes. They told me not to move it otherwise it would niggle me for ages. Of course, I ripped the plaster off so I could still use my mouse and computer and the then made it a split cast for me so I could take it off when I wanted.

Free physio every week where I got a nice wrist rub. Worth the trouble to know its not going to be buggered for the rest of my life.
