Oh dear, how sad....

I guess the downside will be an aggressive campaign over summer to retrieve lost revenue. Oops, sorry my bad I meant increase our safety....

With all the crime going on, maybe, just maybe they are doing proper police work????

We seem to be having a lot of screw ups with our new roading technology recently. Firs there was the new electronic ticketing system for the new highway north of Auckland.

And now this.

If you see a speed camera van are you are completely sure it is a speed camera van and not some private persons van then throw a bottle or rocks at it, after all they have the money to pay for the damage.

I have to say; I've often wondered why it is kiwis aren't more pro-active when it comes to speed cameras. How come no wild-at-heart yobbos don't bomb the vans or set fire to them etc?

There have been some instances over the years

I do recall some guy (North Shore?? I think) who tried to tow a fixed camera away with his 4WD, but it snapped him in the act. Dumb arse. Where/when were others? Can you recall?

Na can't recall specifics but remember there was an incident on the shore years ago, might be the same one. The one on Lake road used to get hit reasonably regular, spray paint over the lens etc

Take heart then, you can retire early, pat yourself on the back and get on with the important stuff; like sewing tassles onto your scrotum.:eek5:

spray the camera lense with paint and they'l get hundreds of photos of nothing. shoot it with a shotgun, if being identified is an issue shoot it 200 yards away with your .223 (stationary cameras) vans? hmm. not sure. year 11 metal work i made some impressive road spikes

No wonder I saw four cops between my house in Karaka and the Takanini offramp at 730am this morning, god damn that's like 15k's! And they weren't moving either.

So that WAS you on Red Tube. And here's me thinking that the rumours of your fidelity were true.

I'd like to make a formal complaint about your tassles and their whereabouts.:yeah:

They rarely do, unless there's easy meat about.

Why not just fuck with the entire system...

If everyone observed the speed limits for long enough to render the speed cameras unprofitable and then, once the police had cut their losses, went back to drive like sentient beings... how wonderful that would be.

Maybe I'm just cynical, but I reckon if everyone did that they'd just lower the speed limit....and start the whole cycle again.

That's not how the NZ world works. If we all drove below 100kph on the open road they'd lower the limit to 95, then 90 etc. It's NOT about road safety, it's about the money. If it were about road safety then failing to indicate would incur a six-month custodial sentence, drink-driving would result in death by firing squad and texting while driving would result in the chopping off of hands.

Until then, nobody will give a fuck, they'll cough up the cash and the govt. will be happy.

Make it a six-pack, but you'd better be quick, I see the stocks of Montieths Winter Ale (Dopplebock) are vanishing fast.

I know what you mean about regimentation; it sucks. However, since getting back into the old 9-5 scene it's a case of having to make plans, to a degree. We know we're going, we can carry a tent but have booked nothing.

If you have even a slight inkling to travel south, do it. Then, when you get home, make plans to do it again. We love it so much we moved here, 18 months ago.
Cheers.

Now that's my kind of plan! :D

If I didn't enjoy my job so much I'd be down there like a shot, I venture down to a friends place at Marahau on occasion and always find it hard to leave, and always enjoy any trip to the South Island whether its for work, pleasure or racing. It's definitely a paradise within paradise down there, you lucky sods. :niceone:

Made the mistake of moving North once from the original base in the Waikato, lasted about 5 years in the big smoke before it took it's toll.....headed back in the right direction now :)

Marahau is just a short jaunt, went (almost) there last Sunday. Had a beer at Kaiteriteri, skipped around the twisties through Sandy Bay and back to Wakefield. We burnt about three tanks last w/e just dicking around. grit on the road in winter, dorks in summer.

Yeah it does get a bit crowded in the height of summer, ruins it a bit - much like the Coromandel now that the big city dwellers have discovered it.
Still a nice spot and you do have to watch out for that grit, especially as it's so well sign posted.....:eek5: NOT!

Well, it's always about keeping your wits about you eh? Big city folk only come here for Dec 26 to Jan 30, so I just work through. Feb and Mar are sweet-as, weather not so hot, accommodation easier, roads cleaner and the cops scurry back to the main centres.

Bliss.

Yes indeedy....those 'wits' aren't as common as they used to be in some quarters, bit like common sense becoming more and more less common...

Still, mine have held up this long, hopefully they'll hang around a while longer (touch wood).
I generally avoid taking holidays over the Christmas period too, doesn't seem much like a holiday with crowds of people and all the extra fun police there to control them. Not to mention a lot of strangley clean vans parked up on the side of the road everywhere (keeping on topic...)

C'mon, this IS New Zealand, populated by a fair percentage of ding-a-lings unable to unite in anything let alone remember to do something as cunning (simple?) as driving at or below the speed limit for any length of time.

Sorry, does that sound cynical??:scratch::wait:
