Hey BMan, Jantar (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/member.php?u=1471) is looking @ doing the Southern Cross this year. I've promised him that I would check out the roads on an alternate North route that pass through my home roads for him close to the start of the SC Run and post an update re: road works etc on them plus time & distances. If you want this info as well I would be happy to PM it you as well:niceone:

A trip to Italy might be cheaper:msn-wink: Not sure about doing the SC myself, but did enjoy taking on the GC last year and nailing it in 21 1/2 (with an extra 1/2hr of road getting lost). Would love to try hooking up a 2nd tank for the GC to increase my range. Less Service Station stops means better times without riding harder:niceone:

Having done the GC 4 times, I'm doing the SC to close the loop so to speak. Reckon it's going to cost about $2700 all up which includes a full service when I get back - just over $2000 without the service.

GeoffDoes that include tyres and brake pads etc:msn-wink:

Includes a new set of tyres which I'm having fitted next week but not pads as I put in a set recently. I need my valve clearances checking anyway, hence the cost of a major service when I get back. Saving a bit of money though as I'm riding with Mangell6 and we'll share accomodation costs although we'll be able to stay at home in Tokoroa on the northbound and westbound legs. Really looking forward to it, albeit with some apprehension!

P.S Is your avatar the McIntosh clan badge?

P.S Is your avatar the McIntosh clan badge? No, Hunter. I'll be updating the Mangakahia Rd route conditions as close to the SC run as possible as this is a very good low cop alterative North. At the moment there are some new major road widenings being done on it, but hopeful this will be finish by the time of the SC.

That's really good of you thanks. Mike Angell and I are staying about 60 north of Kaitaia before the Cape Reinga check-in - Houhora from memory.
