Bautista to Rizla Suzuki for MotoGP?

Jorge “Aspar” Martinez hopes of entering MotoGP with Spanish rider Alvaro Bautista in-tow seem to have disappeared today. After calling an emergency meeting with the young Spanish rider today, Aspar had hope to be able to persuade Bautista to not sign with the Rizla Suzuki factory team, which has an exception to the rookie rule. Those hopes, however, no seem to be in vain as early indications point to Bautista instead opting to ride for the Rizla Suzuki team.

'Things are much more interesting off track, where Honda had a press conference to say they will resign Pedrosa and Dovizioso to the factory team. Sometime. Soon. Not everyone is convinced the deal is as done as HRC would like us to believe. The conference was actually to introduce new HRC President Mr Tetsuo Suzuki and no doubt the announcement of the resigning of the riders was put in the schedule many months ago and once it was on the schedule no-one would have the temerity to take it off.'

According to Italian website Motosprint, Ducati, in collaboration with sponsor Marlboro, have offered Jorge Lorenzo €7 million to ride the D16 next season. This value is twice as much as what Yamaha is offering Jorge, and allegedly €2 million more than what Lorenzo was asking from Honda.

Ducati seems to think that with Honda tying up Pedrosa and Dovizioso, they can buy Lorenzo away from Yamaha, and ensure a top-talent on the team for 2010, in case Stoner’s absence becomes longer than 3 races.

According to paddock gossip, Ducati has made signing Lorenzo its top priority. We haven’t heard how receptive Lorenzo is to the deal, but if money is truly the Spaniard’s hang-up with Yamaha, then Ducati seems to be the right fit. You have to imagine how much Lorenzo would like to not only beat Rossi for the Championship, but do it also on an “inferior” machine.

I had no idea Bautista and Lorenzo were so keen to commit career suicide.

Honda don't care who they have on their bikes. If you aren't winning World Championships in your second year it is only a matter of time before you struggle to get a contract racing shopping trolleys.

The biological element is not always reliably fast so it makes sense to change them with the same frequency as technological improvements. If its not working, change it.

Well it’s official, Marco Melandri will join Marco Simoncelli at Team Marco Gresini Honda for the 2010 season. With Kawasaki out of MotoGP for 2010, the fact that Melandri would find roots elsewhere was assured. Melandri is no stranger to the Gresini team, during the 2005 season Marco joined Gresini on the Honda Telefonico Moviestar team, riding alongside Spaniard Sete Gibernau.

it is believed that lorenzo and ducati have come to a basic agreement and things could be announced at the inidanapolis gp: http://www.asphaltandrubber.com/racing/rumor-lorenzo-ducati-deal/

from what this says stoner had no regard for his team when deciding to miss 3 rounds, but in my opinion i think lorenzo would be bloody stupid.

He has a complex medical issue without a well defined diagnosis of the actual cause of the problem. Plenty of top level motorcycle racers have chucked it in temporarily or permanently for the same reason.

I'd suggest that Ducati give about as much of a toss for their riders as Honda. Without Stoner, Ducati will be struggling for mid-field finishes. Lorenzo won't cope with the Ducati after the Yamaha.

And rumour has it even though he already has a contract for 2010 - Stoner had been in talks with non other than - you guessed it - Yamaha, for the possibility of a ride in the 2010 season. Aparentely he isn't all that happy in the world of Ducati.

It would have been interesting really. I would love to see Lorenzo on the Ducati and Stoner on the Yamaha - just to see how each rider would deal with the change. One would put their $$$ on Stoner having better form on the Yamaha initially.

Maybe in 2011 then.........

This is a good move for Lorenzo, he just needs a superior bike to get the top spot - Ducati should have gone after Vale and put the two italian legends together (wots 10 mill euro in the scheme of things)

You have to be kidding. The only rider to win a World Championship on a Ducati, to consistently run at the front on a Ducati is Stoner. Lorenzo will languish mid-pack on it, just like everyone else.

Lorenzo IS on a superior bike. The Yamaha is simply the best package, largely thanks to Jerry Burgess and Valentino Rossi.

Given that the 2009 silly season didn't finish until Gabor Talmacsi (and his sponsorship money) replaced Yuki Takahashi at Scot Honda (http://www.motomatters.com/news/2009/07/02/takahashi_now_officially_dropped_by_team.html) in July, I think we can safely say that the 2010 season has a way to run yet!

Australian dual World Supersport Champion Andrew Pitt has this morning confirmed a two-year deal to ride a BMW S 1000 RR in the World Superbike Championship for the all-new Reitwagen BMW Team alongside Roland Resch.

Johan ‘Stiggy’ Stigefelt has been confirmed as the team Technical Manager and Australian Peter Goddard will join the team as Chassis Engineer.

The Reitwagen BMW Team is the first satellite team to run the new S 1000 RR and the bikes will be prepared in a dedicated workshop at the BMW factory.

Testing officially begins at Eastern Creek, NSW, Australia in early February followed by a second testing schedule at Phillip Island, Victoria, Australia, prior to the World Superbike round at the famous circuit.

Andrew Pitt, “After four years I’m very happy to be back in World Superbike and excited about riding for such a dedicated and passionate team. The team also
includes plenty of very experienced operators and BMW are obviously serious about the World Superbike program, so I think this is going to be a great thing.

“The S 1000 RR is, on specification and results, a competitive machine already and I’m looking forward to testing the bike at Eastern Creek and Phillip Island early in the New Year.

With 47 World Superbike races under his belt and 66 World Supersport races, Andrew will be bringing a wealth of experience to the team.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge of a new bike. I’ve been working hard on my fitness and I’m more motivated than ever to have a successful two-years.”

Andrew will spend the next two months at home in the NSW North Coast town of Port Macquarie where he will be joined early in 2010 by teammate Roland Resch.

The pair will train together in the lead up to the start of the season, ensuring that both riders are at peak fitness before tackling to 215-plus horsepower BMW S 1000 RR.

Davide Tardozzi gets ready for a new challenge with BMW having led Ducati to 16 World Superbike titles

BMW is on the verge of confirming ex-Ducati boss Davide Tardozzi as its new team manager ahead of the 2010 World Superbike season as it forges ahead with plans to challenge for the 2011 title.

Tardozzi made the surprise decision to leave the factory Ducati team at the end of the 2009 season having helmed it to 16 WSBK titles, with initial rumours linking him to a spot in the manufacturer's MotoGP operation.

However, the Italian has all-but-confirmed he will defect to the burgeoning BMW team this season for a new challenge.

Speaking to GPOne.com, Tardozzi points to Aprilia's route of success in 2009, stating that he wants to be taking BMW to podiums and at least one win in 2010 before making a tilt for the title in 2011.

“In 2010 we will try to do what Aprilia did in 2009, which is to say some podiums and perhaps even a victory, so that we are ready to fight for the title the following season, in 2011.”

Tardozzi, who is tipped to have signed a three-year deal, also praised BMW for being accommodating to his contract, revealing he has the chance to leave at the end of 2010 if he so wishes.

“At BMW they have been exceptional; they've even left open the possibility for me to leave at the end of 2010, if I want to – and also to extend my contract if I so wish.”

BMW enters its second season of World Superbike racing with the same line-up of Troy Corser and Ruben Xaus. The team's best finish in its inaugural year of World Superbike racing was Corser's fifth position at Brno.

Tardozzi is expected to make his first appearance in BMW colours at the first World Superbike test of the season at Portimao later this month.
