Trail bike collision leaves one dead
04 April 2005

St John Ambulance officers tried desperately to revive a Runanga youth killed when two trail bikes collided head-on yesterday afternoon.

Travis John Haugh, 17, died from his injuries at the scene of the crash on a shingle track at Coal Creek, 5km east of Greymouth.

Order of St John's West Coast manager Brian Fancourt said Mr Haugh was not breathing when ambulance officers arrived, and could not be revived despite prolonged CPR.

The other rider, a 16-year-old Dunollie youth, was transferred to Christchurch with serious head, chest and leg injuries.

Mr Fancourt said both riders were wearing helmets and it appeared they were going in different directions and unaware of each other at the time of the crash.

Police said alcohol was not a factor but inquiries were continuing.

Oh no,not another one...RIP dude.

Bike to bikes are bad news - it's not until you run into another bike that you realise how many pointy sharp things are all over them...it always hurts to hit another bike.Trails have to be closed and one way, otherwise it's so easy for this sort of thing to happen.
