My '92 ZXR250 is blowing ALOT of smoke. So much that I think I might almost be pulled over for it. Factors are: It's NZ new so it's been sitting in Japan for probably over a year and has been sitting in the dealer in NZ for about a year (not sure if this is relevent but just to keep it scientific). It's obviously got no catalytic converter. It's got aftermarket cams/cam (no idea what difference they make or even if they're different to what it came with out of the factory). My guess is that it's a mixture thing but I don't have time to learn about how that works in detail right now so I'm looking for a quick fix in the meantime. Can anyone help?
Cheers - James

Being that its a 4 stroke I'm doubting a mixture problem.
What colour smoke? If its white/blue then its not a mixture thing, more likely to be worn oil rings or valve guides...........no quick fix really.
If its black smoke then it could be a mixture/overfuelling issue, though if its been sitting for a long time then the carbs prob need a good service.

It's white smoke. The carbs were serviced not long ago. I've just been reading about white smoke generally meaning that it's burning coolant via a crack in the block :(

Yeah with a 3 month warranty so I will be insisting they sort the problem, but before I do I'd like to get to the bottom of it with undeniable evidence so that they can't weasle thier way out of it. If it is a crack in the block, they might use a radiator sealant to temprarily fix the problem until it's outside of it's warranty.
