Righty ho chaps and chapettes. After 4 phone calls I got through to the correct person at Hamilton Airport. Now they have no specific motorcycle parking facilities. Their main parking is in front of the terminal and it's covered by security cameras. I asked about barriers/poles to chain the bike to and she wasn't sure. Suggested I perhaps park it on one of the little "islands" to one of the lights. I pointed out that I didn't fancy coming back to find it had been cut out and towed away. So for this weekend she's gonna advise security of the fact my bike will be there. However, for the long term she suggested I write a letter to the airport requesting specific motorcycle parking facilities. Advised her that it was free at other airports and to be honest, if it wasn't then we'd generally just ride around the barrier anyhoo. Better to be upfront about it and not take up a car space we both reckoned.

So to cut a long story short, if you've got any intention of taking your motorcycle to the airport for a dirty weekend or whatever then write to:-

Hamilton International Airport
Airport Road
RD 2
Hamilton 3282
New Zealand

Can some of the grammar nazi's help me with my letter and then everybody else can cut n' paste it.

Dear Sir/Madam,

Could I request that there be dedicated motorcycle parking spaces at Hamilton Airport? At present, the issue of whether motorcycle can park in regular car parking spaces is unclear. Dedicated motorcycle parking spaces mean more regular parking spaces for four-wheeled vehicles. Realistically, motorcycles can park in a regular car parking space and then easily drive around the ticket barrier. This results in lost revenue for your airport. Dedicated motorcycle parking need not be at the expense of car parking spaces as there are places in the current parking area where four-wheeled vehicles simply won't fit.

If there were a dedicated motorcycle parking area(s) at the airport with rails or posts to secure motorcycles to, then I would use Hamilton Airport far more frequently than Auckland airport.

Yours Faithfully

I wouldn't leave my bike at the Hamilton Airport, too open to people fiddling with it, I've had my car interfered with there and found their so called security was pathetic, couldn't care less

Is it not a council requirement that there is supposed to be X amount of motorcycle spaces for every Y amount of carparks? I know that when they put in the carparks where I used to work they had to set aside a certain amount for motorbikes - ended up being so popular that they doubled the amount of bike only parking - the only free parking in the whole complex.
