I'm leading the auckland cold kiwi push. we will be there on Friday arvo & intend camping at the bottom of the entrance, just to the right hand side. Look for a yellow BMW R1200 GS & a white Buell XB12stt along with a burgundy Honda st1100

Cool - maybe it will end up becoming a KB party. They're great fun.

18th August 2009, 19:32
We've got a group of us comming up from welly, hoping to set up the KB campsite and fire. Shouldn't be too hard to miss us  we should have a flag or something up so everyone can flock over when they want.

I got a group (well 1 at this stage :msn-wink:) leaving from Napier on Friday around lunchtime for Taupo.

Meeting up with some mates and rellies coming down from the Waikato, then heading for the campsite around three pm.

Your welcome to join us for the ride, the more the merrier,

Plus it would'nt hurt to have a rabbit to sweep the Napier-Taupo road for us too :innocent:

At this stage:confused: a couple of mates and myself will be meeting a KB group coming up from Palmy on the friday and travel to the rally site via Taupo :chase:. Not sure on the details yet, but will post it up here soon :niceone:

Paturoa and yours truly will be making the journey on Saturday morning from Dorkland.

Prolly leave around 9am or so from Greenlane.

PM me if you want to ride with us... we sort of stick to legal speeds.

Will be there in time for the events to start. Our usual possie is on the Knob close to the drain/Loos/events area. Just look for the old bald farts and the ugly SV1000 with custom handguards and the stunning BMW R1150RS.

FWIW
GPS track attached from last year for the geeks wondering where to go

See you all there !

Cheers

Stu

U be OK , U can fit lot of stuff in your pennies and top-box, it be something like trip that we did with GSXR Tracy, just not hotel room like you had in Ohakune, If you don't know where it is, just go threw Ohakune town and it is 4-5km on LHS. As you turn in take care on gravel bit:niceone:
My mite is going down on his Fat Bob and he is taking big size bike cover so he can sleep beside his bike .

Anyone coming from wellywood is welcome to join us for the trip up. Taking the scenic route up through the Waiarapas, and then through apiti. Theres going to be a couple of 250's with us, so its not going to be a fast ride (the XR doesn't really like going over 110kph), however if we get enough people, we could split into two groups, slow and fast, will see what happens. Some gear may be able to be carried on the trailer aswell so PM me if anyones interested in joining us.

Crisp clear skies, that doesn't mean it will be cold does it? Does it? :cold:

http://www.metservice.co.nz/public/localWeather/taupo.html
Those overnight low numbers don't look right, they don't go that low here in Auckland even in the middle of Winter.
I think I might have to dress warm - multiple layers starting with thermals and ending with leathers.

Last year it was miserablely cloudy rite untill saturday evening just as the sun went down, then the skys opened up to be perfectly clear, and it turned to a hellish cold. Im guessing if its open skys all day, it should be warm during the day, and extreamly blardy cold at night. Aww well, theres plenty of fires around to warm up at.

Because when it was at the Six Cross camp (near the summit of the Desert Road) it was a lot colder. Always got ice there and sometimes snow. Cold enough to freeze contact lens solution.

The current site is tropical in comparison.

My first too, a delayed arrival but had a great time :2thumbsup:
Thanks to Horse for insisting that I went and for the pre-leave brekkie :2thumbsup:

Thanks to the 2 x Robs and Garry on his gorgeous new Thunderbird for the escort up, your idea of pootling stretched me a little

The Napier boys picked me up in Waioru and it was onto the gravel and into the rum

Awesome site, shame I couldn't manage two weiners at once but I will be better next year cause I am gonna practice. I won't blame Grant for his riding, quite liked the Kitana to be honest.

Good on the KB pullers in the TOW

Thanks to Gerbil and Blacksheep for not exacting revenge on the furry rally hat, I definately needed it here!!!!

Thanks to Charlie41 for sharing the tent, nice to hear the wellington boys spent their night listening for anything to feed their dirty little two girl fantasies. Too busy sleeping and freezing my toes off. You'll be pleased to hear that Charlie spent half the night on top thou

Buell had a poorly bike before we even made Fields Track on Sunday :weep: but I know he got home safe and sound. I was getting a soft spot for that bike as well. Told him he should get a Triumph.

Spirited run home via Fields Track, Fordell Valley and Vinegar hill. I sooo love  my bike (just incase anybody didn't know) and windy roads

Jared talked himself into giving me track day advice too so all in all a bloody good result.

I will wear a name badge and be more outrageous next time so we don't miss each other. I had the furry hat on and a bright blue T-shirt.

I have transferred my pics to my PC and had a look through them - picked a few I likes, crap 118 pics! I'll have to go through them a couple more times and cut down the number before putting them on my website. In the meantime I'll post up a few here. I have already gotten Irfanview to batch process the 118 to make them a more KB friendly res.

That's impressive that you made the effort to get up here, especially with the number of rallies available to you in the South.
