Wireless Internet Help?

Hi, i just need some help/advise from anyone who knows,
we have our internet with Xnet and are using a Netgear wireless router and every now and then our wireless will drop and the computers wont be connected any more, any ideas what this could be?
we have a Macbook an Imac and a PC running on the network plus an Xbox,
could it be the location of the router?
any help would be sweet :mellow:

Do you have a cordless phone? Ours conflicts with the frequency the wireless router uses and causes a similar problem :(

First you need to isolate if the wireless connection is the issue or not.

If you plug into the ADSL router via Ethernet, does the issue still happen? If so, look more closely at your ADSL connection.

If it doesn't, then it is highly like to be the wireless. See if there is a firmware upgrade for your ADSL modem. See if there are newer wireless drivers for your computers.

A lot of wireless issues we look at turn out to be a firmware or driver issue.

Intel bad a bad batch of wireless chips a couple of years back that caused the power saving function to steadily drop the transmit power back until the signal was lost. In your wireless NIC there is usually a power saving setting. try CAM (constantly awake mode), and see if that changes the issue.

Have u set all of your computers to run on different channels? Are there other wireless networks nearby? eg neighbours??

I had the same issue once microwave was the culprit most likely would be interference from another device there are alot of things that use the 2.4ghz spectrum these days

As long as you're running dual channel memory it should be fine :whistle:

Re wireless networks, thats actually a relevant point. If there are other wireless networks, check if they are using the same channel as yours. There are normally 11 channels (funnily enough, 1-11) so you may have to change the channel your's is on.

As already said by p.dath, check if the same thing happens using an ethernet cable. Also, find out the modem's ip address (it should be all the computers Gateway) when it "isn't connected any more" try pinging the modem.

Also, as said, do you have cordless phones. It isn't often an issue, but it can be in theory, as they all operate on the 2.4GHz spectrum, but all devices are set up for FHSS anyway. Lastly, how old is the modem?
