As an aside, holy faaark getting rep points from Hitcher is worthwhile if that's your thing- went up by 20 or so points in one hit. Other mere mortals increase the count by one or two...

I gather that the higher the rep of the giver, the higher the rep given.

I note when I give out rep that there is no option for how much to give yet I have received varying amounts of rep from different people.

Looks to me like it is based on the rep of the sender - unless the ability to choose how much you give is another thing that comes with becoming a senior member (along with the ability to change what's written under your handle.)

Mostly depends on the difference in rep. If the giver has less rep than the reciever it only goes up by 1 or 2. If the giver has more it'll go up by however much. Atleast that's what I have noticed.
