I should have mentioned I will be taking part in the protest because I disagree with the new laws. I know a few bikers are joining in.
"Boy racers" get a bad rep but they don't all break the law its a minority that ruin it for all the others.

I had to laugh when I read "the protest was set for last Friday but was postponed because of rain". Hahaha, what pussies; and they're ensconced in a nice warm metal cocoon!
As long as they stick to keeping it peaceful and not endangering people then why not? Maybe it could be a chance to let the general public see they're not all dickheads. On the other hand what's the betting that rent-a-mob will be there amongst them and won't be able to help but cause trouble.
Will be interesting to see how it pans out.

"Heading out for the big night? Please read!!
This Friday can go two ways. We can either have a good night and show the rest of NZ and the government that the proposed anti-cruising laws are not needed, or we can give them further reason to pass it.
There are two main points that come up repeatedly when complaints are laid about 'boy racers'. These complaints are heard by the local councils and government which are then forced to do something about them. If we can address these issues then it will make everyones lives much easier!
1. RUBBISH. The store owners and operators that come along the next day don't want to have to clean up someone elses mess. Its not hard to find a bin or just keep it in you car / boot until you find one. If there is no mess left behind then they will have nothing to complain about!
2. NOISE. While the sound of your wastegate / limiter might be music to your ears, it certainly won't be to the people down the road sleeping. There are plenty of places and times to have fun racing or doing skids, Te Rapa or around town is not one of them. Have some patience and wait til you can do it in an appropriate environment.
There will no doubt be a lot of POLICE PRESENCE so if you attempt any racing / skids, expect to see your car on the back of a tow truck off to the impound. As most of you know there is also an ALCOHOL BAN in the area, so leave the drinks for another night.
Lets all have a good night, but lets do it without the negative images often reported by the media (such as from a certain southern city :P ). See you there :) "

They could follow it up with a law against motorcycle group rides, but that would be OK because everybody knows motorcyclists are bad bastards.

Touch a nerve did I. I'm sorry if I offended you. There are laws in place about the noise level from a wast gate already. Anti social?? The Te Rapa straight scene is the exact opposite many friends meet and socialise there thats the main reason they do it, its just a few show off's that ruin it for the rest of them.
I know how about we ban alcohol because of all the misery, death and violence it causes. Come on there are better solutions than banning cruzing round and parking up. The people who do illegal street racing burn out ect do it anyway even tho its illegal what difference will this law make to them

Yea right mate.
Piss off enough people and the goverment can quite quickly make anything you want to do, or previously had the right to do illegal.
I mean by the goverment those folks who I vote for and who I pay taxes to. IMHO finally got one new law right.
Those spoilt middle class delinquents have been pushing the bounds of what is acceptable and safe behaviour for years and now have to 'man up' and take what's comming.
If bikers behaved in public like these punks motorcycling would be illegal in this country. The fact that these losers are even considering demonstration shows just how stupid they are and how important and necessary the new law is.
If any of you are out there reading you do not have the right; to spill oil on the road, intimidate other road users, drive around at night with race exhausts on your crappy little japcrap cars, use the road as your personal race track, place me and my family at risk, and have the ignorant arrogance to think for one second that you are above the law.

Are you sure its not the drunk people who are driving? last Friday saw an older gentleman in his 40s driving a work vehicle clearly pissed off his face near Te Rapa straight oddly enough it was a "boy racer" that alerted the police. FYI they if the ones who race want to they generally don't speed along Te Rapa because of the massive police presents there they just park up and catch up with friends.

Maybe there should be a bike crushing law introduced. There seems to be a distinct pot vs. kettle thing going on here. I just about got pushed off the road while in my car the other day... Two Yamis on the edge of the white line hauling it up the hill on a road barely big enough for two lanes, my left tires were on the gravel before the ditch. And a while before that I saw a group of bikers having a drink getting a bit roudy. All bikers must be like this?

Assuming again you do realise like I keep telling you that its a minority!! I work along TE RAPA i have SEEN the aftermath and your EXAGGERATING. What the do you have against a young guy parking up showing his mates his cars and talking on the side of the road then going for a drive checking out others cars? he is in a commercial aria so no housing near by he does not drink or litter. He is just meeting up with his mates and talking about cars or bikes as the case used to be with the KB meet.

The public have the right to be able to travel our roads without fear of intimidation and danger (shit left on the roads etc. as well as physical violence). Many of these groups, in their determination to "express their rights", do get aggressive and anti-social. Groups of bikes can be the same.
If a deserted place out in the middle of nowhere could be found to host their activities then probably no one would be overly concerned about what they do. i.e. no keeping people awake at all hours, no diesel and crap for unsuspecting motorists to discover on their trip to work, no likelihood of a lone motorist coming unexpectedly upon a road block and being abused or attacked.
The shame of it is that most of these gatherings seem to take place where all of the above are likely to happen, and do.

You don't live near Christchurch. The good average folks down here would buy tickets to see car crushing. IMHO the media is only reporting on what the people really think.
Yes it's a minority but it's the behaviour of a destructive, dangerous minority that is causing the problem. These stupid twits are placing themselves and others at risk, and whats really dumb is they do so in an easy to identify manner and they drag dumb ass kids along in their mums toyota corola to watch.

20th August 2009, 21:42
actually...no.
I was on one side of the fence for many years with timebomb rotaries all the way up to turbo and nitrous oxide fed hondas.
Now I'm onto sport bikes.
Here is the difference. Feel free to deny it but back it with fact as I can provide facts, photos and videos of all the crpa that was the norm in the Wellington boyracer heyday. I helped set some of it up. Nowadays its a monster that needs to be put down and started again from scratch perhaps.
When the average group of car enthusiasts gather, its at night, its from 10on onward, it involves passengers and peer pressure.
When the average bike groups gather, its daylight, its one person per bike or a wife etc on the back [and results in less random behaviour due to lectures from the backseater], no alcohol is involved, least not on the raodside or carpark, as who can balance pissed?? Less peer pressure as its hard to talk inside a helmet while moving.
The publics no.1 issue is the night gatherings. Why do the bike groups meet in the day? Because they go for a ride, not round town, that would be gay - seriously gay. They go for a decent ride, even a fang round the twisties, which would inevitably involve speed and daring and risk.
The car guys and girls go for a drive round a 2km area, if that.... again and again and again. In the old days the madmen in there commodores, rotaries, Toranas and Angleboxes used to head out into the hills and muck round. Thats how it was never as big an issue and was tolerated to a POINT. Nowadays the car crowd seems addicted to having everyone look at them { I was at one stage until I saw a video and saw how gay it all was} in town passed the bars etc. WTF? Why aren't you IN the bars partying up with the SINGLE girls and nhot the pitliziards skanking round the toys?? And why aren't you using your cars on longer runs out in the hills where their handling and accessories mean something, and in daylight where all the paint and shine can actually be seen?
Simple... the average car ISN'T the sum of all its parts, its less, handles like shit and goes even worse. The average driver of these cars ISN'T so good at speed with a turn coming and the Average Driver has something to hide. Illegal or dodgey Mods, loud car, Restricted licence etc. Driving for drivings sake used to be what it was about... who could do the Vinegar hill run the fastest, who's car could monster the Rimutakas... we soon got good then hit the trackdays and got bored of the roads.
Now they are too scared there cars arent up to it and wont hit the track for fear of laughter and ridacule... time for some new friends then.
We see it all the time with manfeild opendays... Max attendance for the bikers, but a ton of cars parked in the carpark and the owners watching, not joining in, then hitting the street drags that night. Gay
When you car guys realise how much fun a car should be to drive, even round corners, and how much you can learn from trackdays and club racing, you'll move away from night gatherings and start returning to driving you damn cars, not leaning on them, and not pissing everyone off at 1am.
Give me shit if you will, but I'm still involved with both the D1NZ and the NZDRIFT Drifting Series and the local Toyspeed/Honda group in Palmy and they NEVER criuse at night. They all race and build and race trackdays some more. The drift guys are the same and they are WAY dodgier!
Long rant but this whole "boy racers are misunderstood" shit is old. They are misunderstood... but not by us, they themselves don't understand what they are doing anymore. And more importantly, why.

here a thought or two...
if you built a SuperX track in the Square in Palmy, in Manners Mall or at the Basin Reserve, on the Main Beach-Ocean Beach Rd-Mt Maunganui or Te Rapa striaght, how long do you think it would be before it was torn down in protest?
How annoying would it get {Other than for carver who would be drooling in heaven} listening to those bikes all night racing, every friday night from 10pm on...
Yet SX and MX tracks and parks DO exist and thrive. The catch is, they dont do it in downtown suburbia, its out in the hills. So its tolerated.
I LOVE the sound of a track full of 2 strokes more than sex {ok except when its with the otherhalf as Brazilain girls are godesses!} but if I heard it day in day out right outside my room I'd be shooting a few clowns.
Thats what the residents are feeling like. They paid for the house and its not on wheels, the cars are so why dont they bugger off into the hills like how drifting started in japan...

Quote from the article:
One car scene blog urges boy racers to "line the streets of T-Rapa (sic) straight, the plan is to fill the street with as many cars as possible ... parked up, bumper to bumper, on both sides of the road. We are aiming for 4km of cars bumper to bumper." But protesters are urged to remember the protest is a peaceful one "to prove to New Zealand that we are not all retards"
For an encore they are going to prove the sky is green.
It's going to be messy isn't it?:2guns:

Thermite...lol funny! I used to use that stuff in my old job.
A better plan would be to have the thermite setup above your drivers seat, with you in it and have an emissions tester to see just how many different toxic gases we see produced as it melts down through the roof, ignites the hoodlining, the occupant {aided by any hairproducts, perfumes, lycra he may be wearing} then on through the seat, the crap hidden and lost under the seat, carpet floorpan and, if we used a 4oz charge we may even get to the road surface and mark the spot you were torched and martyred in the name of the Boy Racer cause.

It aint going to happen overnight, and pretty sure it (law on crushing) is for serious offending maybe 3 times. But this law could be made to be allowing any vehicle and same thing with repeat offending.Scary part is say you're caught doing 175km for 4 or 5th time by by bike. That is where it gets scary for some, and the politicians aren't the most trusting types when making laws.
Imagine if you've been caught doing the odd wheelie, burn out and couple of minor speeding(say 120-130km)couple of 150km speeding, odd disqualification then bike goes from scale of 1:1 to 1:10.Due to nature of the bill introduced.
How many here have never lost traction in a car in the wet, gone round a corner sideways or with noise hehe, sped etc.Same on bikes wheelies, burn out speed, not much difference really, except the thing pissing people off with boy racers is the stereo noise, tyre, engine noise and all in town.Go out in country, noone takes as much notice about noise, well when I was younger in cortinas, escorts, anglias, zephers, major speed machines, seemed to be so,and with a girl beside you you could always feign being lost.

If a deserted place out in the middle of nowhere could be found to host their activities then probably no one would be overly concerned
They were doing that in chch for a while but the 4 people living ou there kept calling the police and they made it illegal to drive out there after 10pm.
The boy racers are their own worst enemies. True its only a few, but those few act and all the others sit by and watch. Which in my book is pretty much as bad. It encourages the others to keep going. Take it to the race track. Its safer, more fun and no cops. Even better give them a drag strip. If it was open every friday/saturday night i'd be there.

Ah man I love the human race, it's such wonderful entertainment.
We were all young once, we all did things that upset, annoyed, and disrupted others. Simply by being a 'yoof' we offended the older generations. And then guess what happened? That generation of youth became the next generation of 20 somethings, and a lot of them distanced themselves from the antics of the new yoof. They didn't want to ban the activities of the new yoof, 'cos they still had memories of what they got up too, but they were now realising their own mortality and gaining responsibilities. Then this generation of 20somethings moved into their 30somethings, starting families, taking on real responsibilities, and with so much going on their memories of the activities of their 'yoof' are now long forgotten. Especially now with these young idiots out causing problems, you know, that 'yoof' lot. It only gets worse from here on in, with each year passed the memories get more distant, and the activities of the 'yoof' get worse and worse...
Yeah yeah, there are exceptions, this is just a generalisation. Heck it's probably just all bs anyway, I'm only 33 after all and I still ride a bike that well exceeds the open road speed limit in first gear. I'm sure there are a lot of people who would call that anti-social.

So people shouldn't be allowed to go out one night a week and drive round with there friends. Park up and look at what other people have done to express themselves via there cars/bikes. Cars driving in a group is similar to bikes riding in groups. Granted a car uses more space but should we be unable to do that just because it's instantly assumed that where going out to do skids or drag.
I am sick of getting stereotyped for what I drive (in saying that last cop that checked my car said that they don't normally go after mine :) ) anyway everyone speeds at some time 5km over is still speeding. I know some guys that are considered Boy Racers/Hoons do over this but alot of it now is out of the way.
Also alot of the crews are stopping the dangerous people coming out and are monitoring whats happening. We now go to out of way places and cause very little trouble. The christchurch issue has angered alot of people and that behaviour is not tolerated by most groups.
All these new laws are going to do is cause people who know there car will be crushed is make them run which will put more people in danger and involve higher speed.
Everyone is intitled to think what they want but don't lump everyone into the same group.
Also the amount of cars that come out now that people are more orginized is increasing and if 120+ cars decide to do what they want most cops will have trouble dealing to them all.

My idea is a law..........societies voice administered through the law of our country enforced by our police force..............what do you advocate? All you see from giving a govt. more power is more corruption, and no change to the problem. So I advocate social change for a problem one perceives. Most of the time societies don't have their voice administered via law which is then administered by the current government... Politicians share their voice through law. Well that's your opinion, but personally I think that seeing as it is a social problem, society needs to work on it, rather than giving the govt. an even brighter green light to act as Stalinistic as they like before it causes them too much trouble
What is your bright idea for sorting it out then? I suppose boyracers would want their own racetrack provided for them? Any ideas?

They don't want a race track and they don't want a designated area to "do skids in" like all of the other detached do gooders keep suggesting because they're from the "car culture". Do I really need to explain? My "bright idea" is certainly not adding more and more laws to the nanny state, it sure as hell hasn't worked out too well for drink driving, underage drinking or child abuse.

All you see from giving a govt. more power is more corruption, and no change to the problem. So I advocate social change for a problem one perceives. Most of the time societies don't have their voice administered via law which is then administered by the current government... Politicians share their voice through law. A lot of the time, I mean, not for every example you can think of (I know someone was looking for an example to pull out of their pocket to prove me wrong before reading this last sentence).

Fair bit of town bound traffic on Te Kowhai Rd tonight.
Looking forward to hearing the distant squeal of doughnuts and burnouts on the Boulevard acess rd at 12pm again. (I'm about 2kms from it, and it's rather a pleasant sound, the sickening sound of car slamming into armco on the T intersection of Te Kowhai-Ruffels road, and the sirens of ambulance and emergency services I can do without. fast corner that brings many unstuck)
Fingers crossed for a good, but uneventful protest.

It would earn me either a nutjob rep or site dreamer status to go on about it, though. So I'll just answer "Aren't they doing that already?" with: Society is dealing with this problem by pushing for more laws? That's not quite what I was meaning...
EDIT: I didn't mean to have a go at you when I called you ignorant, I was just saying that even though so many people out in the real world, and in here on this site are saying that it is more of a socializing thing for people to do, which it is, people still say "oh but they cant drive for shit cant they see that" and "why dont they just go to the racetrack" or even "give them a safe environment to play in".

All you see from giving a govt. more power is more corruption, and no change to the problem. So I advocate social change for a problem one perceives. ....
I am still uncomvinced that there really is a "problem".
Certainly, some young men do things that are a pain in the neck for other people. But,firstly young men have ALWAYS done things that are a a pain to other people. I remember a certain young antisocial irresponsible hoon disturbing the neighbourhood half a century ago with his Jawa 350cc two stroke running open pipes. Dunno who he was or what happened to him :innocent:
And a lot of the 'antisocial' behaviour is really just part of the give and take that we must accept as part of living in cities with millions of people jammed in together.
Young hoons doing wheelies at night , disturbing my sleep. Yes, they do them in the car park down the road. I curse them and wish all manner of evil on them. And then the next morning the elderly neighbour gets his motormower out at 6am. I curse him too and wish him all manner of evil. Does he never sleep?
And I am sure he wishes ME all manner of evil and curses me when I blast up and down our long shared drive on an only faintly baffled two smoker. Well, I have to set the carbs somehow !
For that percentage of youff that really does go over the top (and I think it a small percentage) there are many laws available already and cops very happy to enforce them. If they spread diesel on the roads (but I see more diesel spread by SUVs and trucks than boy racers) throw the book at them. But the point is , that there IS already a book to be thrown.
The majority of the youff being talked of here are NOT doing anything particularly terrible. Just hanging round with mates , being obnoxious, strutting their stuff, showing off to the chicks. It's a ritual as old as mankind.
I suspect a lot of the hatred (I do not think the word is too strong) of boyracers has a much more subtle cause.
A car is regarded (rightly or wrongly) in our society as one of the trappings of virility. The old males see younger ones with fast fancy cars and feel their masculine supremecy is somehow threatened.
Note how many people focus on the idea that youff should only have SLOW cars. "Not as powerful or fast as mine, eh".

However I dont go down terapa straight or put diesel on the roundabouts, if i want to do a skid ill go miles out to the country or to the skid pad at Meremere or mystery creek I dont drive round aimlessly all night wasting gas and rackign up milage. yet i still get persicuted by the law and judged by you.
I build my cars entirely on my own, from rebuilding engines, to panel work, fabrication, paint everything i possibly can do to make something unique, powerful and tidy, just as you all love to do with your bikes and yet i still get labelled as a boyracer by the public.
Would it make any difference if i told you ive been riding bikes for years? i not long sold my Kawasaki ZX6, but once again in the eyes of jo public riding a high powered sports bike made me a danger to myself and a hoon.
You all complain about noisy exhausts from cars, but i bet you love the sound of a half dead harley with a foot of tube off the head, easily louder than any car and sounding 3 times as bad.
You can all sit behind your keyboards and rant all you like, pass new laws that will effect you all aswell, and cause events like beach hop to become non existant. Take away the basic freedoms of society but that will not fix the problem it will just make it more of a criminal element.
These kids dont want to cause trouble, they just want to go out, meet up with mates and have a good time somewhere, we dont go to the pub like you do, we dont get pissed and go to town and start fights, we just want to be able to show off our cars and hang out. And for those complaining about noise and crap, incase you havnt noticed terapa is a fuckin industrial area, its not like were doing laps of rototuna or hillcrest, hell i could organise a cruise past your retirement homes if you like? so you can see what a well behaved bunch of people these racers can be.
And finally to the member called "reofix" you are quite possibly the biggest idiot on this entire website. personally; I think the look of the baggy pants and over size caps make young guys look stupid (retarded actually), but that's no different to how people looked at us when we were younger, long haired hippie freaks.
I cant help but wonder what the real difference is from when I was younger;
There were young people cruzing the main back then, I use to head out on a Friday night in my black viva with a 308 in it, do laps up and down Victoria street, there was a number of cool cars doing the same thing, burnouts when you could get away with it, run when the cops turned up, a bit of drinking going on.
The main difference is the shear number of young people in cars now - I guess that makes a bigger impact than we use to
And there are a hundreds more hanger ons - who seem to egg each other on and behavior starts to degenerate to a stage where there needs to be some restraint provided
But I do think the laws are there already to stop it, but Police don't have the same respect they use to (wonder who's fault that is) so they need to make the repercussions worse?
I blame those who have been bolstered up by mass hysteria and out numbering the cops, and have stood up and abused the privilege of freedom, and thus they will now loose some of that freedom
Sad - but I suppose its inevitable

Firstly no FUCK YOU lol, and secondly, whilst you place yourself into the category of a good well behaved "boy racer" the fact remains that the build up of like minded people in your fraternity causes the trouble, collectively you are trouble makers and collectively you are responsible for the diesel spills and crashes etc, so collectively you should be banned in the interests of Hamilton.
lastly I dont personally dislike those that drive hotted up cars, guys like you in particular that build their cars up themselves should be praised for the energy and time they put into the vehicles, the only issue I have is Diesel and public safety

No - but as I said in my post, I believe there are the laws to adequately police the problem, but when ever reasonable laws are unenforceable due to overwhelming consistent infringements that threaten the rule of law, such as the situation in some cities and possibly Te Rapa on the odd Friday night, then history shows that by removing the normal rights of people and treating everyone as a criminal has always been the inevitable response from politicians - and sadly it works - and there will always be the innocent caught up in it
If you remember why this law has gained traction - when Police were attacked by boy racers
It clearly demonstrated how the inability to police the accumulation of smaller offenses by the few, because of the presence of many, can escalate into a direct challenge to the rule of law (anarchy). It gave people the shits, and Politicians the will to impinge on freedoms, to discriminate against an image - it will always be what happens
Every generation has had it in one form or another

We took a cruise through the protest last night - no trouble at all that I could see. The LEO's were a bit smart though and had stopped the north bound lanes with a breath check team...cars were backed up for blocks behind that little lot. Stopped any circuits though dinnit?
South bound lanes open, full of cars, lots parked, lots of people standing around on the footpaths, the odd tinny being emptied (few actually) but no trouble, as I said.
At one stage a pleasant young man came by and gave me a sticker for my non hotted up Subaru wagon..."peaceful parkup" it said...he did look twice at me before he offered it though...hehehe...
Lots of coppers in evidence, plenty disco lights with the odd person pulled over.
Generally well behaved from what I saw.

Thankyou to all who have taken my posts in good humour and with a bit of understanding.
And for those with complaints i do understand where your coming from,
Spilling deisel on main roads is moronic, Ive been past that round about once when there was deisel down, and seeing an 18 wheeler tractor trailer come through at a reasonable pace had fears of a serious crash.
Its also terrible for unsuspecting women (sorry ladies i know some of you can drive well) and you guys on bikes.
While there are many many elements of this "boy racer culture" that i cannot condone, there are so many good points that the public should be aware of.
Owning a decent car gives kids something to work towards, be proud of, and spend money on rather than just being no hoper druggys or burglers etc.
It brings money to local buisness' and many other aspects.
This street racing (in reality theres very little racing) will not go away, it needs to be managed properly. Why not simply give the racers an abandoned carpark to go to and park up?? it seems every other group gets a place to do their thing and yet we are shunned by the government.
If there was actually somewhere for them to go to do their thing, then by all means crush anyones car whos stupid enough to race on the roads.

That's a good point - however short sighted that expenditure is, most boy racers spend the equivalent to a deposit on their first home - but hey you're young and aren't looking that far ahead

why does this generation continually think it is someone else who should GIVE it to them, you'll get no where in life if you keep looking to the government to solve your problems.
Being a car enthusiast is not new, being harrased by the police for getting together is not new - but no one gave us a place to go - we formed ourselves into clubs, I was part of a club set in the Waikato so we could go on club runs - get together a talk cars, check each others 'rides out'. We put our money together and hired Baypark raceway and Meremere drag strip regularly to hoon around on.
Much the same as Frosty and others on here do for KB. We hired a local hall and had an agreement with the council - if we damaged the carpark we paid.
A true car enthusiest would be trying to organise a club run, club days at tracks, car shows - where the public could come and really appreciate the effort some of you have put into your work of art.
A true enthusiast would not be interested in, or supporting those who are just there to hang around public roads getting pissed, endangering other motorist, pouring diesel on the road and littering and fouling the place, loosing control and slamming into the front of the cafe....bla bla bla
if you want to make a difference - YOU get organized, don't wait for the government to GIVE you anything

You can't export them because after modifications they won't comply with the ADRs.
Straight into the crusher then use them to line the side of the road in place of those bloody wire barriers.
