Ok I just heard back from Cyclespot. They have looked at my bike and aparently a powervalve was blocked/frozen/broken (can't remember which one it was) and the airbox wasn't the right one for my bike or something like that. My question is what the hell is a powervalve and what does it doe?

It would only be a powervalve if its a 2 stroke (Yamaha Power Valve System- YPVS). Being an FZR2fidy, it should be the EXUP valve. This link (http://ymedc.introweb.nl/en/archive/classics/FZR1000_exup.shtml) tells you more than you'll ever need to know about the EXUP valve. If it's jammed then it's most likely jammed shut, so you will have lost nearly all power.

Ah indeedy. Tis a highly sophisticated version of the old megabung.

Or a spud up tut exhaust if it's jammed shut. Happened on my FZR1000 once- 'tis a very strange feeling riding a normally grunty bike that suddenly goes all quiet and struggles to do 80kph

The exhaust or Exup valve must of been completely blocked as the bike would not even start by the time I got it to them. I've had a prob with the exup before, closing and not opening, resulting in too much backpressure and the bike not wanting to rev.
