Well that saves me from getting in touch with him, have been wanting to know if he does the tests in other locations in the area too, but he doesn't even reply to emails, will probably have to head to tauranga, or somewhere as there are a number, that do lessons and have bikes available to use if needed.

The closest I know is in Hamilton: http://www.rideforever.co.nz/directory/motorcycle_schools.html.
I did my advanced rider training about 7 years ago with Ward Fischer and found him excellent. If I remember correctly, he was chief instructor with the Ministry of Transport and had a big input into the current syllabus.

You may have to come to Auckland but it's worth it. They are fantastic and guide you through the learning process.
I did mine thru them - see here: http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=99593

Good luck with finding someone for your basic handling test. In the meantime, have a look at this video:http://www.public.tv/channel.php?group=4EW9-3P8K-9MF4-C6GO-YVU5. It's about an advanced rider in the UK going for a ride and describing what he sees and what he's thinking (situational awareness). The earlier you can start putting this into practice, the quicker you reduce risk of harm. Absolutely nothing wrong with going for a ride and keeping up a commentary inside your helmet to practice good situational awareness and to share it with mates.

I'm surprised there isn't a volunteer KB crew for this type of thing. I suppose not everyone has learner bikes that they will let randoms ride and drop on the concrete.
