Hi folks,
Not been have a great few months with the bikes:crybaby: Broke a handlebar on the KX then the ZXR has fuel issues.
Last weekend I let a mates son have a quick blat on the KX and he has a head on at the top of a sand dune total accident with the poor lad breaking his arm :doctor: Well the poor KX looking ok just a crunched expansion chamber and bent to buggery gear leaver.
So the dad says he’ll get the bike fixed, the expansion chamber is buggered so he’s looking for a replacement. Now I had a Pro Circuit pipe on it but said hay mate as long as you can get the bike running I’m happy (I had no idea how much these things cost till I started to look and man they cost a penny)
SO
The father has come back to me with a pipe from a KTM wants to know how close a fit it is thinks we can make something up, I’m not so sure as know that each pipe is made to help aid in motor dynamics any info on why we should :Pokey: or shouldn’t make a pipe up welcomed.

Another thing I want to know is, what other years of the old KX250 bikes will fit (expansion chamber) my 1998 KX250? I’ve seen on some websites that sell pipes say that one pipe will fit bikes from 1997-2000.

The expansion chamber is :buggerd: father been quoted over 10hrs to fix. See below

Expansion Chambers are "tuned" for the bikes they are on, I would say apart from it not quite fitting right , it would also run "differently" - almost guaranteed it would be worse than before, but you never know, it could be better. Best bet woudl be to find a 2nd hand one somewhere, and yeah 97-00 sounds about right for that "generation" of KX

your not kidding about munting your pipe, Like hiss says , pipes are tuned to the bike and porting, you would be better off getting the correct pipe for it. it could end up alot of work fitting the KTM pipe and it may not run right or be really peaky, or worse and nip up due the jetting being wrong for the pipe

Thats what I was thinking...
Now I got to try and find second hand... Trademe, Ebay and everywhere else in between maybe bite the bullet and get a new one.. (thats going to be 20% of the cost of the bike) ...

Thanks mate, let me know what you find. AFC have a factory part in Auckland they can get for me for about $300 so atleast I've found something.
I offered the poor guys father who crashed it to go halfs and he said they will pay $200 :Punk: so thats better than a kick in the  nads.

Gutted that I cant get a ProCircuit pipe in NZ for this year bike, I'd have to import one and thats just a little more than I can spend on my "beach hack" bike.

Sorry mate, not one in the shop.
The AFC deal sounds pretty good......

Talking to Bill about it tonight, and he said the walls on the factory ones get a little thin after a few years... True that... And yours may have collapsed so bad due to this...
But for $300 you will get as many years out of it as your current pipe..
And so long as riders don't make a habbit of going full song into sand dunes you should be right...

Hope the young fellas arm heals okay too.

He had a "head on" in the dunes both bikes hit the top of the dune from opposite direction at the same time... other guy just buckled his front wheel...

The young fella still got about 7 weeks but the cast is off.
Thanks for looking for me... your a real :innocent:
