Flounder fishing?

Strange question to ask a Motorcycle forum but you can get ANY info from KB :rolleyes:

Question is for the Auckland Area:

I have just aquired a couple of flounder lights (nice compact LED style) and want to go out and go floundering. Becides the Manukau Habour area has anyone got any areas/ideas where you can find them? (Local Fish 'n Chip shop / Fish Mounger not included)

the Kaipara harbour, close to you in places even.

heaps of spots at my end of the kaipara but there will be plenty down your end as well

So what are they actually eating? Feeding off wormbeds?? Muddy / mangrove or sandy beach?

I used to catch them on Ninety Mile Beach when I used to live up that way, Qkkid doesn't believe me :rolleyes:

Stillwater or the Weiti river ?. I had a mate who used to go down Okura, but that may be a reserve now.

The most productive way is two people with a flounder net, but you can spear them in knee-deep water with a broomstick with a nail sticking out the end.

Any shallow crab-infested mudflats will do.. just try around the place and see where it works - they should be everywhere.

edit: I read an article about catching them on a fly rod. Apparently its quite hilarious.

try it on the incoming tide.........the main thing is to be very very quiet so you don't spook them.

I used to go out at Waiwera with my grandparents and get heaps. That was a good 15 years ago though.
