Thought I'd start another thread for the second round.

Sunday 30th Augaust. Thats this Sunday coming.
Entry is Rimmers Road. Go past The Sandpit and follow the arrows.

An absolutey fantastic track. many thanks to all the helpers as we have probably pruned 10k of the 18k main loop with new track.

The ladies/Juniors loop is great. You know those neat fire breaks from around Taupo? well we found a couple just like them.
I wanna ride damn it:(

And have come away with a sore lower back (not from falling off either) i can bearly touch my knees.

mmmm, If you got time can you put some roots diagonal across the track, and polish them up. Some un-painted tree stumps would be good too, maybe a combo, like slip on root didn't see, hit tree stump lose all control and hit tree. Climb back on feeling shit and face 15k of whoops....can't wait:crybaby:

what a day, we were lucky with the weather.

the 2 man series for me this year has been plagued with bad luck..

round one, my partner and i were running 4th overall in expert and all was going well until my 250EXC started sucking sand and then proceeded to seize. not good. we were running good time and still managed to finish 7th outright.

round two, started off well despite being stuck witht the rest of the ironman boys on grid 21! got a hell start and was dicing with heath howlett for the first 3 laps in 4th and 5th. i managed to pass him when he needed fuel (thanks go out to the 8 litre tank on the 300EXC) on the third lap and i was running 4th. i thought great! only two more laps, in the zone with no crashes to blame i was ready for the 4th lap but at the end of the third lap i managed to some how put a hole through the side wall of my rear tyre? - can't say i've ever done that before, with no spare tyre i had to accept the DNF. gutted.

that's my race, how was everyone elses?

vazza
30th August 2009, 19:10
Ahh geez, bad luck bro! That sucks... Weird having a hole in the side of your tyre lol wtf.

Had a pretty crazy race. On the first lap I was blitzing it through some of the tight stuff and some how a branch grabbed onto my pinky and tore the flesh around my nail, just about ripped it off. You would have heard me roar a 100m away it was so paintful Hahahah! Also have a massive black bruise on my left shoulder which was just about more painful that tearing my pinky apart, im covered with cuts and gashes. Trying to tackle the trees haha!

Managed to come off a few times due to stupid shz, had a few wicked drags on some of the straights, was nice opening up.

Ended up coming 9th for solo which im pretty chuffed about, thought I had a crap ass race but yeh. was good!

Thanks heaps again Tony, event ran perfect! Roll on round 3!

Keen for some photos, quite afew photographers out there.

yeah bro it was so weird.

i was having a crazy race also, first lap was just an attempt to pass people and avoid the goons haha. second lap i was clipping trees, i got my right knuckle/hand something chronic! third lap was going sweeet! until about 1km from the finish. tyre decided it wasn't having a bar of it.

the open parts were fun, good times.

round three should be good!

I think that I was nest to you on the start line? I was on the CR on the outside right on row 21 with the helmet camera.

Well I had to change to ironman so that was an experience in itself!! Thank god I've been spending some time at the gym!!

I had a crap start, I was just spinning like crazy going no where and was just about last off the line. I managed to hold it together and I was trying to not get over excited and pace myself a bit. I got stuck behind some people that would not move out of the way and would keep changing lines to cut me off when overtaking. I guess that you have to be a bit more ruthless.... I tired Boooms trick of back off and then come flying up reving the shit out my bike. Oh well got past them eventually.

I was feeling pretty good after my first lap, but I found I was overheating badly. So binned my shirt that I had over my pressure suit and carried on.

I managed to have a reasonable 2nd and 3rd lap, but my 4th I was starting to get tired. I started falling off a bit and was getting overtaken by a few people. My wrist was killing me and I think that the cocktail of painkillers I took at 10am had worn off!! I stopped to take off my helmet camera as it hit a tree and was knocking about. Then Evan (oldschool) passed me. So I made it my mission on my final lap to catch him. We had a good little battle for a while and then I hit a huge rutted out tree root trap and I had to catch Evan again. Got him a few KMs down the road!!

Ended up 43 in class (last I checked) and 113th overall. It may move up? I don't know. There was a last lap to add to that.

Ironman was so much harder than 2 man race. Last time when i had a partner, the rests helped you feel recharged, 4 laps nonstop just drains you. that last lakes section was just a killer.

Anyway, Huge thanks to Tony and the crew, and a big thanks to the Maori land owners for the use of their land.

Hey All,
Does anyone know when the results will be posted online. That was an awesome track, knackered after that one...Looking forward to the next one...
Cheers to the organisers...I read somewhere that this is the first series organised by the sandpit guys'n'gals...Pretty much ran like clockwork in my books...Heaps of marshalls on track:first:(feel safe when you see so many fluro vests around)...plus i got given a chain lube can for free..yeehaw

Yeah yeah, Just a couple of things to sort, i.e how does a guy doing 35mins all of a sudden do a 23min and jump from 10th to 2nd.

Realise that results on the day have not been grid adjusted due to the stagged start(it took nearly 20 minutes to get every one away). its not live as opposed to actual times so the placings can change.
Also some will have done an extra lap because of this and we take this lap off some times. Its the only way we can do this at this stage.

Results will be posted probably tomorrow evening.

I saw some results like that when I checked the race times. 23mins would be an incredible pace! I'm guessing someone found a way to cut a section out?

So was the fist lap started as the last bike left the start line?

BAH!!! i had a shocker, thought i could ride with a huge hangover, but after going over the bars TWICE on the first lap i quit and went and had a sleep in the van lol. im a dick!!!! ha ha ha

haha was wondering where you got to

I wasn't feeling that great after 3hours sleep but had a bloody good day.was hard finding places to pass/ let others pass in the tight stuff got stuck in a train for a while and by the time i'd made enough dodgy passing manoveres to get past them I was tired and promptly fell off

Did any one get a pic of that crash just after the start where the guy ended up stuck under his bike?

Was it just me or did there seem to be a lot of people just stoping for a rest?

Hey Tony, if people have been blatantly cheating, why don't you give them time penalties? OR make them last place for cheating.

barty5
1st September 2009, 20:56
Anyone who cuts 10 minutes out of a lap must have cheated i say cut them out of the comp all together why even bother tryin to work out a reasonable time penalty for them let them come back with the reasons to why their lap times where so different if they dont complain and cant explain why its cause they know they cheated. No one on a jet powered bike passed me all day.

Well next round will suit different folk. Probably about 5-6k of farmloop(will slow it down to reduce speed) so sections will suit the MX style and sections for the bush. Still be a good section in the trees like the flowing coast section in this round.

5-6k loop with that many riders by the time the last grid leaves the 1st would be on top of them as they start it would make for 13-14 minute laps for the mid pack riders and 10 or less for the front runners?? should be interesting race

There was another small stump or log hidden about 1km before that bit that took all those people out. I hit it twice and it nearly threw me over the bars!

You're a slow learner then aren't you. I'll clear all the obstacles from the course.

Did a cool dead engine mass start at the Raglan ROXX, they set up the start line about 10m away from a fence, everyone holds onto the fence and waits for the shotgun, yeehaa!! They even supplied little sticks for the mx bike to be propped up on.

Nah only joking, just that log or stump or what ever it was that cheese, me and everyone else hit. Bound to end a few peoples race, really hidden.

It's a team event, and I've only been ridding two years, and I don't get to ride every weekend like some. I'd say we are in the right class, but there are deffinatly some who should be bumped up a class. Having said that it's only a bit of a laugh.
