According to the LENGTHY 'making of the great escape' and his own BIO doco he never made the jump- the movie production crew refused to let him attempt it at all
LEGEND has it he returned to that very spot after the movie and jumped the fence on his own personal BMW- but I think thats an 'urban legend' and find it hard to believe
