I'll be going over on Sat but it will be too early for most of you. I'm playing golf at Martinborough with a kick off at 8.00am so will be leaving at around 6:45am Mate is taking the clubs over and I'm going on the bike. (both passions in one day - ya got to love it don't ya)
Once I'm finished, I'll be in Martinborough square about 1.30pm ish if anyone is around. From there - who know's? Could be out to Gladstone or .....?

I have it on good authority they are keeping the road clean for this works- trucks will be using staging areas idway down both sides-

Initial 3 months we will have traffic control while they build giant escalators and conveyors to move the dirt and gravel well away from the road edges to these staging area's

Once conveyers built its supposedly staying 2 lanes from there on! Hope they pull it off......
(will believe it when I see it)

Oh yeah- and meet ya all in MartinB
Sunday- on way home from weeekend of debauchery-

well i might not be...i dont mind the wind or the wet,but i have discovered i have no brake lights at all......the back one hasnt worked since i have had the bike but now the front doesnt either....it appears to be the front brake light switch and or the wires to it..

bulb is good, wiring from tail light to connector is good...brake light switch bad :(
All is not lost however.I found why my heated grips dont work. Some wiring butcher has been at work, the wires that should go to the switch look as tho have just been cut or maybe just yanked out. There have been some other subtle modifications too:oi-grr:.

So are we going to be graced with the BMW's presence tomorrow? Don't worry about your brake light, you can ride safely between us and wave at us when you're going to brake. lol.

the front break light is so you can ride backwards, so you can see where you have been.

I dont feel right about riding with NO brake lights....

It was an innovation BMW made when Chris Pfiefer started stunting for them. Since his bike is often pointing in a funky direction while he's stopping.

ps; I'll likely give it a miss today with the weather looking the way it is. I'm a nancy really, dont let the bravado in my typing fool anyone.

Hey all,

Awesome ride today...except for one corner where I got a bit too intimate with the armco barrier! :shit:...thankfully I saved my bike by taking the brunt of the impact on my foot! Bikes fine...foot is not... Oh well, I managed to keep it upright and rode away (although changing gears was not cool!)

Anyway...just thought i'd get my say in before all the other buggers put the boot in on here! LOL.

Anyway, great company and really good to catch up with you all! Here's a few pics from the ride...Quasi has some more...chuck em up Quasi!

Not a bad little ride eh? Amazing how much warmer it was in the Wairarapa.
But I hate that hill in the wet. I'm probably being far too cautious but at least that way it won't end in tears.

Yeah mate, was great to meet everyone! It started blowing and pissing down as my and Hawkeye crossed the Haywards. Didn't really notice the wind picking up until we were coming around the pauatahanui inlet.

Cautious is good....stacking your expensive toy is not....Good ride mate.

Good wee ride, had to do it being the last day before 24hr/day hill operation starts. Yellow m/c lane little slippery when damp and is interesting how you are meant to turn into summit carpark heading south, now that it is a solid yellow line... Gaped it at just the right time with AJ, home bike in shed 2.05pm, raining 2.10. Cheers

Well, missed you all. That's what happens when you skim read a thread. I didn't think I was going to be able to go on the ride, but I thought about it & figured it was worth pushing it & at least making the hill ride. There was only one bike as I rode past Caltex (where I assumed start was) so I just carried on.

Nice to ride the road (first time since January) for what may be the last time as it is. Missed the rain too so was the right time.

finaly home... and able to say my bit on the ride...

thanks to Quasi, i got to feel the power of a Duc for the first time..!!!

we took the long way to the top of the hill to wait (and wait........ and wait, yeah, we were a "bit" early)in the freezing cold....
we took the east/west rd from Martin/B to that windy rd that comes out at the hill end of featherston... after stopping to check the time, we decided that we had heaps (of time) to get some gas... and for our hearts to stop beating so fast
Yeah, i found out that
a corner + a "little" speed + gravel = butt clenching time...

but the monster stayed up right... (lucky for me as i think/know that Q's girls would have killed me AFTER Q did, if ...... well i didn't go there so wont tempt fate)

i then found just how good the bike handled the hill... not being to familiar with the hill i took it easy (HONEST) and just tried to be as smooth as possible (didn't want sore kidneys ..... lol)

made it to the top with time to spare... meeting "charlie41" and some of her mates ... they buggered off, then another group... hope that's "our group".. but no... another 15min of frezzing when Scuzeme turned up... and then the rest (see Q's photo's)...

once the smokers had their smokes, we were off... sedatly... heheheheh
KGB found out that his tire was cold.....

we regrouped in featherston, and i lead out to Martin/B... till a 1098 flew by... and... well the yellow monster wanted to join in.... ( i could hear her call me to go faster..... NOW..)
Q hung on for dear life....
but when the corners came up, the monster held her ground...
and went around so smoothly....

we finished up at "hooters".. and talked shite and i finaly clicked on who the hell "Scuzeme" is.... gee talk about being blond....

after some great conversations, we headed home and as we walked in the door as it started to rain....

we (Quazi and i )felt sorry for the ones heading back over the hill... for a minuet

will be great to get my bike back asap

AJ

Haha...My sources say that there was a furrow in the road on that corner...my front wheel must've hit it! That's my story and I'm sticking to it! :innocent: haha, good to catch up with ya mate...do it again real soon....minus the armco interference!
