Ahem. Syd.

Doh! And Barrett had 2 T's!

Great Documentary, should've had the HDD recorder on the job!!!
Fantastic footage from the early days! Awesome!
Was that the whole doco though?
An hour, sliced up by adverts, must be a short doco?

Pink was Bob Geldoff ( In know he was NOT a member) but fact remains- the role was offered him, written for him- and the Movie versions of In The Flesh remain as my personal BG favourites of all time

Pink was a fictional character for the sake of the rock operah- The Wall- he was based on the lamentations of Roger waters- who grew up without a dad because he was killed in the war-

Mr Waters could not drop this theme- sadly the Final Cut was more of the same bullshit and the rest of the band had enough and binned him- fair enough too I say (been into Pink Floyd since I was 6 years old) and was glad to see him go after the Final Cut

I bought a couple of their albums over the years but never had a clue who they were or what they looked like, a deliberate policy it would appear, as in they shunned the lime light on purpose. Yes very good doco and great to see so much video has survived from the early days, well worth a watch if you've ever been interested in their music.

I personally loved the Final Cut. His first solo Album was very similar & almost as good IMHO (The Pro's & Con's of Hitchiking). His 2nd album "Radio Kaos" wasn't anything too special.

But agreed Roger was a little over the top with the loss of his father/childhood

Same one :niceone:

Also have the Syd Barrett story, equally as good, but again im a little bias :innocent: By the age of 16 I had 20 PF tapes & went to the concert at Western Springs that same year, have always been a huge fan, always will be. David Gilmours playing just gets better & better, simply increadible to watch/hear

Fav album - Wish You Were Here
Fav song -TIME

Add; Wish you were here- One of them days- Not now John- Two suns in the sunset- Learning To Fly- I like it all (even RW's crys sessions in Final Cut)
:niceone:

I think the ONLY PF song I actually dislike is -Us and Them- just too mushy for me

Anyone heard Dreamtheatres live concert cover of Dark Side of the Mooon?
Awesome- best PF cover ever - and true to originals as much as possible

Edit: fav band member- Dave Gilmour ( I know he wasnt original- so what)

Same. 20 PF albums at last count plus a bunch of bootlegs. The early live versions of Echoes and DSOTM are brilliant complete with rough edges and a gritty quality that is lost in the studio versions. Live At Pompei concert DVD is in a similar vein :woohoo:

PF at Western Springs for the Delicate Sound Of Thunder concert was far and away the best concert I have ever seen :gob:

Oh nice dude! I never got my hands on any bootlegs but heard there were a few around. Mind you I haven't chased anything in years. Yes I would have to say the same about that 88 concert., still got my ticket floating around somewhere in a box. I luckily remember most of it :innocent:

Have been to an enormous amount of concerts over the years but that was most certainly the best. Dire Straits in 85 was right up there too & the biggest crowd ive experienced (80,000 at Mount Smart).

Album = "Pulse" - it covers most of their great songs.
Song = Either "Comfortably Numb" or "Hey You" or "Comfortably Numb". It's hard to pick, but I think I'd have to go for the last one - Gilmour's guitaring gives me the shivers every time I listen to it. (I'm actually listening to it now; had to play each of them to decide. :) )

For the ultimate in Gilmour shivers have a listen the 1977 album "Animals"

2nd song on the album is "Dogs", 17mins long & has one of the most amazing lead breaks............if you haven't heard it already

Same, it has grown on me over time but I never liked it.

My fav album is 'A momentary lapse of reason', it's the album that got me into the group and it has a lot of very good underrated songs.

'Comfortably numb' easy for my favourite song. I get the goose bumps as well, and just thinking about Gilmour on top of the wall with the spot light behind him in the 80's Wall concerts - amazing.

I am very envious of those that went to their concert. Gutted I never did.

I thought that quote was from when the band was being interviewed by a record producer and he asked them stupidly "which one of you is pink?" Included in the lyrics to "have a cigar" from wish you were here album.

Come in here, Dear boy, have a cigar.
You're gonna go far,
You're gonna fly high,
You're never gonna die,
You're gonna make it, if you try;
They're gonna love you.
Well I've always had a deep respect,
And I mean that most sincere.
The band is just fantastic,
that is really what I think.
Oh by the way, which one's Pink?

And did we tell you the name of the game, boy?
We call it Riding the Gravy Train.

We're just knocked out.
We heard about the sell-out.
You gotta get an album out.
You owe it to the people.
We're so happy we can hardly count.
Everybody else is just green,
Have you seen the chart?
It's a hell of a start,
It could be made into a monster
If we all pull together as a team.

And did we tell you the name of the game, boy?
We call it Riding the Gravy Train.

It's both AFAIK. Yes the producer asked that question & they also called Bob Geldofs character "Pink" in the movie. One does not cancel out the other

There's a 20 minute live version of a heavily jammed Interstellar Overdrive on Frank Zappa with Friends-Actuel Festival (http://rateyourmusic.com/release/unauth/frank_zappa/frank_zappa_with_friends___amougies__belgium__actu el_festival__24th__to_27th__october_1969/) featuring Pink Floyd accompanied by Frank Zappa. Bootleg live recording so a bit rough around the edges but definitely a keeper for the PF and FZ collections :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

The same track also features on the Pink Floyd album "On Stage With Frank Zappa"

That's what I read somewhere and it fits with those lyrics. From what I gathered they walked into a board room somewhere (or possibly a recording studio) and one ponce asked "Which one's 'Pink'?" It really showed the company exec's up for what they were; users who really didn't know anything about PF or their music.

Me too, paced myself I did. We took a mate's bus and got trashed but had a feed before we went in, worked wonders. We still don't talk about the chemical toilet....with no chemicals.

According to the Doco, you're cowwect!

I learnt something new! I never realised this was alluded to on that album.

Must listen to the whole lot again!
I also have half of "Umma Gumma"

Does anyone else ever wonder if Pink via The Wall - really was Syd? A description of madness? (just throwing it out there...have never seen The Wall Doco, so could be stating the obvious?)

Don't think it is, possible it's a mixture of his frustration of loosing his dad in WW2 & loosing his best mate?

I am SO tired today!
I had intended to go to bed early last night, catch up on some sleep, but thanks to that doco, I went and bought "David Gilmour - Live at The Royal Albert Hall" and ended up watching it till after eleven.
The review I read before I bought it was right: this is a SUPERB album - simply amazing. It's recorded in proper Dolby Digital 5.1 sound, and sounded fantastic at 58, even if it did make the room shake a bit (and at one point woke the vifferbabe with a start, although how anyone could sleep through that astounds me).
The camera work is good too, and the 'friends' that helped him out (Phil Manzanera, David Crosby, Steven Stills, David Bowie, et alia did a sterlng job. :niceone:
I didn't know #2Son paid any attention to me listening to Pink Floyd, but at one stage he wandered in and said, "That sounds exactly like their album!" (This despite the fact there was really only two 'proper' Pink Floyders playing.)
The only bad thing about it was it was kinda sad seeing all these fantastic and skilled musicians in their sixties; youth truly is wasted on the young.
