Singin' in the rain

Riding in the rain is great. I can't avoid it, I have to ride somewhere every weekday, and just about every weekend, regardless of the weather.

Luckily for me, I enjoy it.

The feeling of your bike skittering about under heavy acceleration.

Revelling in the way that modern technology can allow people to travel and corner at such speeds in roads with water just pouring across it.

The feeling of water making trickling down into your elbows or crotch, where your waterproof gear is no longer quite "waterproof".

At night, the way the roads reflect the street and shop/house lights off the road.

Watching the way that cars and trucks throw out the sprays of water from their wheels.

I love it. It's every bit as good as riding in the dry. :rockon:

However, I feel it is time for me to actually be able to see what I am doing.

Until now, I have only been riding with my visor open with the waterspray on my glasses, as with the visor down, it fogs up both the visor and my glasses, and the water forms droplets all over the visor which doesn't run off smoothly, or indeed, just about at all.

I recall having heard about some products which help prevent this? Dishwashing liquid? Anything? Thoughts would be appreciated.

Best anti fog i have yet applied to my uber cheap helmet and is as good as any 800$ + anti fog design my buddies worn (take THAT Buck ya poser!)

Contact lenses and a quality helmet/visor will sort that out.

Otherwise, rubbing your spit around the inside of your visor is a neat diving trick too.

My helmet has a visor with a pinlock system, like a double skin, so does not fog up in this area, its great better than the fog thing the only grip is where the double skin area is is exactly where i like to see out, so its a bit of a head adjusting thing to avoid that.

Haven't tried the cat-crap, but the pinlock on my tinted visor works brilliantly, all around the pinlock is all but dripping but your vision stays clear...

there is a product for cars called rain-ex or something.

I have had customers who have used it with various degrees of success. A good anti fog on the inside and plenty of plexus to keep your visor clean on the outside is the best combo in my opinion.

Cat crap is nothing compared to a good quality pinlock fog insert like those found on shoeis.

I usually just lift my visor an inch to it's first click. No rain gets in and air flows freely.

You put a smear of dishwashing liquid on the inside, wipe it around with a soft <s>cock</s> cloth until the whole inside of the visor is covered, then polish it up with a clean bit of the cloth.
No bubbles.

As for the outside: you need to treat it with Plexus, Pledge or whatever. A wiper helps; I think you can get some that you slip over the left forefinger or thumb of your glove, or you could make one. Just some soft absorbentish material in a tube, or you could use summat rubbery like a <s>condom</s> piece of wiper blade, or some neoprene.

The funny thing is, the things you claim to love about riding in the rain are the very things most people hate. I certainly do not like the sudden loss of grip when accelerating over tar snakes/lane markings/oil spills, and the poor visibility is not good.

At least it helps you to know you're alive. Comfort and safety are for pussies.

I moved to a Fog City visor... but found out that they can pop at high speeds (on the track)...

Currently nothing, but might try Cat Crap as a mate highly recommends it...

Yeah, the RJays fog-free visor sticker thing is a shocker too, doesn't work, looks like crap when fogging isn't and issue and then one of the edgings came off and tried to strangle me while riding.

In the 1970s, 'Swarfega' was the answer for anti-fogging the inside.

Pinlock on the inside (unbeatable) and treat outside with Rainex...works for me, even in the fog.
