keep it in the freezer in a ziplock bag. once you're done for the day empty out the water, chuck it back in its bag.
It works like a charm: Ive done it with my mtb camelback/platypus bladders for years.
I also only use water in mine: all those energy drinks make me puke or at least feel queasy.

I stick paper towel in there then rub it between my hands to dry it, pull the moist towel out then stick some dry stuff in again.
shit loads more effort then throwing it in the freezer though - I like that idea

I have tried putting a little bleach in but really don't like that idea so i'm glad you asked the question and also like the answers. I will be trying the freezer idea as I have just finished using mine. Thanks.

if it gets furry, or it is furry get some Steradent tablets from your supermarket or pharmacy. put a bunch of them in the bladder with the hose on and leave overnight and that will get rid of the mould etc. might take a couple of applications. It is designed to be put in your mouth and doesnt leave a bad taste.
at last, years of mountainbiking comes in useful! ;)

Depends what sort of bladder you have. Anything apart from Hydrapak are assholes to keep fresh hence why I changed.
Totally agree with HenryDorsetCase about the freezer biz. It stops the nasties from shagging. I never bothered with the ziplock, just straight in the freezer. It does "wear" the rubber-type material out quicker and sometimes they go brittle but it's still better than green stale water
I got annoyed with having to always do that so I switched to a Hydrapak bladder. After I'm done, empty the bugger out, turn it inside out and dry it. Leave it inside out for a day then back the right way and you're done.
Box of fluffies :niceone:
PS. Those sterilising tabs work well when things get to out of hand. And a thin pipe cleaner is good for cleaning the tube (that's the biggest problem).

yeah, there's some good stuff to take in, especially the freezer, ( cheers HenryDorsetCase) im onto my third in 18 months,
The Hydrapak one sound like the go too, the fact you can turn it inside out a clean makes sense.
My latest bladder came with my new Dririder jacket, smells rubbery but i guess that will soon wear off, any more tips will be welcome,

.You can use 1/2 a Miltons sterilizing tablet (or any baby bottle sterilizing solution) dissolved in water to sterilise it if you think it might need it (and it may well do!!) I'm sure camelbak make a hose cleaning tool as well...kind of like a long bottle brush pull-thru.
Once clean keep it in the freezer....the only way to go!!
