It's the PC Police at it again... We can't fix healthcare, education, race relations or even driver education, but f*** it we're gonna spend our valuable time on something that bugger all people care about, even less people knew about, and people just did anyway!

I'm making the assumption here that Winja is factually correct and not just trying for a windup (well, any more so than usual) since I haven't heard anything about this myself.

Speaking of boobs round the ankles, anyone heard of the LaLeche league ?

There a group of scary ladies who think it's cool to breastfeed until your ninety... I dunno, something creepy about brestfeeding kids when they get to school age.

Cut to mother turning up at college;

Mum: Son, you left your lunch at home, so I thought I'd bring it in for you.
Son: Awesome, thanks Mum.
Mum: Here you go Son *lifts shirt* ( Heh heh, lifts shirt just above waist height anyway)

Yeah, well, not something I'd appreciate in the foodcourt, but whatever spins their slighty freaky wheels...

Yeah. They scare the crap out of me. Mrs Random called them for Useful Information Pamphlets or whatever when we did Baby #1. They promptly jumped all over her and attempted to extract a promise sealed with the blood of a virgin chicken under a full moon that she would breastfeed everything in sight, forever, and participate in commando demolition raids on the local Heinz milk powder factory.

Eeek.

Formula feeding is so much easier, anyway. What do the ninja breastfeeding militants expect us *dads* to do when we're stuck with the baby? Lactate on demand?

I could tell a few humourous stories about expressed breast milk in the fridge and oblivious fathers-in-law being sent to make coffee, too.

Yep skyrider..... you are quite correct... it is up to the mothers to decide how long they wish to breastfeed. Some mums can do it longer than other mums.... and most mums are very discreet when they do it out in public.

I agree totally here, I really dont care about breast feeding in public hell its natural.

But If I'm eating a meal I really dont want to see a saggy ugly blood red boobie being sucked on by a baby while I'm having a coffee. Call my synical but jezus it makes me really wonder if I need woman, hell my bike gives me enough pleasure, if It was legal I would forget about woman and stick some boobies on my bike and live life a very happy man, although I guess the bike wouldnt start if I didnt do the dishes or wouldnt shutup after we 'did the business' etc.

My wife was a LeLeche Leader and breastfed our 4 kids well beyond what is considered normal, but in other cultures of course they probably think she stopped early. She trained new Leaders and pushy over zealous born again types were certainly discouraged,it's support the new mothers need, not a brow beating. But it's an emotional time for them and support from a stranger can often be seen as interfering,it's a fine line they have to tread. Then of course there is the father,he may have diferent views and it's not on to breastfeed for him, more pressure for the mother, their mothers, mother in laws,grandmothers...everyone is in there with a view...post natal depression,I don't blame them.

It was a surprise for me to find one of our members was one of the babies in my wifes LeLeche members playgroup - the prick pushed my little daughter over....it's payback time now Erik, fathers never forget.....

Slightly off topic here, but who ever said NZ was a liberal society? There are plenty of conservatives here. It might not be total Nazi-ville, hopefully a nice middle ground. We want to liberalise some things, i.e. this breast feeding in public issue, and at the same time legislate the hell out of running a business, i.e. the holidays act, or how someone can run their pub, i.e. the pub smoking ban.

As above...comes down to inconsistencies in 'what is considered appropriate'. The same people who want to promote public breast feeding and say "if you don't like it, don't look" are often the same people who put pressure on the censorship board to ban violent films and games, when they should simply "not watch/play them".

We are not. Despite all the hurrah about our so-called liberal society, legally we have never been more regulated in most areas. Sure, we used to have odd Sunday-trading laws, 6 o'clock pub closing, rail transport protectionism and the like, but we also had a society that mostly controlled its own excesses without laws to do it for us.

I was doing a listing presentation one night. Mum and Dad were on the couch, when this 5 year old toddles up, asks Mum for the teat and starts to feed.

should you then also be pointing the finger at other animal species ie; cows horses gorillas, they all feed young in fill veiw (amongst other things).....ok so we watch animal documentries should they then also be rated R18?

ok so you think other mamals are different & cant be compared to woman brestfeeding in public...every one is intitaled to their own opinion...nature should be as nature intended.

Yes there are some conservative regulations but then look down the street and can see a myriad of people that maybe even 10 years ago wouldn'y have been accepted. A lot of stuff that used to be unacceptable is now mainstream - such as tatoos, piercings. Thats more what I was meaning. I mean we allow people to walk down the street with metal in their face for eg but, some people get upset about a woman doing what is an act that is about as natural as you can get ie. feeding a baby.

Not having kids but knowing others who do, I would doubt there are many women out there who "flop their tit out & wave it around" kinda thing.

My original information on this never came from the internet. Way before the house-husband phenonima was known I was looking after the kids, one of whom was still in nappies. This was before the demise of Plunket. I use to go to the Plunket do's and the baby thing's etc. I might add that I was the only man there and use to get some pretty funny looks. This was in the early days of Rodgernimics, before the high unemployment kicked in. Anyway one of the mothers decided to get someone in for a talk on Breast feeding as a contraceptive. So me being me go's along. By this time the mothers had come to accept my presence so there were no inhibitions so to speak. The outcome of this was to inform me that breast feeding is safer than generaly known, provided the critical criteria are met as is shown on links on other posts. As some have correctly stated it is not foolproof. As an aside to this I suspect that brestfeeding mothers...........are a bit more fun in the after dark department. Just one of the suspicians I picked up..........when doing the mother thing, so to speak. But hey I could be wrong on that one.

Pays to be carefull when making such statements because unsuspecting mums with a baby can end up with another in tow, which for some could be rather inconvienent

Why people will get upset over breastfeeding, I am at a loss. Why cannot people stop being PC nazi/selfish??? Women have been breastfeeding for how long??? Those who don't like it should accept it and look the other way, NOT expect it to not be allowed.

Actually I did not even know that she was a mum, although having a child feeding just makes me realise that she is tapu now and us guys need to look elsewhere...

Ok here...

theres nothing wrong with breastfeeding. it is natural.

but how can you NOT LOOK when someone just full on flops their boobs out for their child?

you've already "looked"

breast feeding. nothing wrong with it so long as its "discreet"

i been in town with my aunt once when she just flopped her tits out. LIKE WTF????

when people are discreet i'll have nothing to bitch bout when it comes to breast feeding :)

Those who have been parents will understand and some cultures this is just the way it is...
When a mother is nursing a infant/new born many consider that the woman is "off limits" or tapu". The mother needs to be left alone to nurse the baby and for many ceases to become a sexual being. Yes physically the mother is going through some pretty major internal changes, having given birth and needs time to recover. This concept for some means that a woman is viewed differently once given birth and therefore will not "look" at a woman and child breastfeeding.

Besides, unless your a spotty headed git off the young ones names pRick, why the feck would you do such a perverted thing and not leave them alone?
Sure, if they start and you accidently saw it, fine. Accept it and look elsewhere. Would not imagine having someone staring at mum and bubs being accepted in NZ.
Just a though...

I really think that you need to go back and "read that again"

Your talking bout people perving on a woman breast feeding yet most of the guys on here seem to agree with breast feeding just for the pure fact that they like to have a perv. or so it seems.

In fact I LOOK ELSEWHERE. Unlike some people. I have respect for females who breast feed, so maybe they should have some respect towards me for not wanting to see it.

just a thought

I could always whip one of mine out and smack that "boob"(the one complaining about breast feeding in public) across the face with one of mine!.....I'd be very happy to do this for ya'all....where is he?....ha! He was probably just pissed off because "everyone" around him seemed to be getting some boob in one way or another.......But Him!....And breast feeding was just a sad reminder of that fact!

I think it steams from a problem we have in NZ, but turn a blind eye to.

People here in NZ think that they may take offence to something that at the end of the day, is not something that anyone has a right to complain about.
Western Springs Speedway is one. Some bunch of brainless twats build next to it (after its been there for HOW LONG???) and then think they have the right to complain about the noise?
We have people complaining about religions, cultures, ways of life, heck on a regular basis I get told off for riding a motorcycle!!!!
Anyone who thinks they have a right to dictate natural human development such a breastfeeding has a screw loose, even if its in public!!!! Whats next, will they want to ban pubity???
If people focused on themselves rather than everyone else and delt with ones own issues, rather than ignoring them and complaining about others. Then the world could be a great place. However this will not happen as society just becomes more self centered, selfish and biggoted by the hour...

Wow!

An adherent of the ancient and little known art of Breast Fighting. You could train up a small army of Breast Ninjas (although some of us *cough* might need a little 'augmentation' first...)

Just think of the possibilities! Sounds like the La Leche League would be keen, for a start... and they could be a, er, legitimate 'front'.

Oh dear. Sounding a bit like a dodgy French 'art' movie from the 70s....

In essence I think it all comes down to a combination of respect for other (both from the side of discreetly feeding the child, and as a passer by) and intentions (i.e. WHY ARE YOU LOOKING?.. or equally, why are you "flopping them out")

I personally find the image of a breast feeding mother very pleasing, the same feeling as when something good happens to someone I care about. I like to see the little ones being looked after and I think it'd be hard to find a demonstration of care and nurture more pround than the simple act of breast feeding a child when it's hungry.

.... MDU out ...

Oh! Makes sense... However it seems to me that it's often the other way around! ie It's advanced penance which then excuses later transgressions...

You know....

Me "You are acting like an inconsiderate wanker with that skateboard"

Them ""Yes I KNOW I'm acting badly but I do have many pierced bits"

Me " One nipple or both?"

Them "Both, a tattoo, a nasty scar and I'm getting my lip done next week"

Me "Oh well. thats OK then... carry on.."
