yea sp2 upwards is a better bike. supose the white one is the go, just hate the gay megaphone cans the put on! needs the matching ackro cans to go with the headers.

heres a couple of reviews from superbike uk mag

SP1

"nasty fuel injection glitch detracts from race proven motor and chassis. neither comfortable nor practical, the SP1 was always best suited to track days and / or short distance scratching."

SP2

"rough throttle response and lack of ground clearance are major gripes."

personally i think the SP2 is a fucking awesome bike.

not a big fan of those cans on the SP3 in that listing though eh.

The fork mods, PC etc on the SP 3 would go a long way towards sorting any problems with the bike.
Put some Akrapovic cans to go with the headers, an Ohlins on the back, custom PC map by Gary Pendleton, and it will be a weapon!

I've always had a boner for the sp's, get the sp3 man, fuckin A.

I think from memory the sp2 ? has 62mm throttle bodies ! Just about big enough to suck in a 4cyl piston and shoot it out the back :D

Well I'm not trying to piss on your lollies, but... I got a SP1 in 2000 and I can say its probably the worst bike I've ever owned....
Paid 29 grand for it, lost a heap when I traded it.

Terrible thing round town, had a real bad snatch from a closed throttle.
Bad "snatch"in the 2500 to 3500 rpm range, which meant at 50kph you had to leave it in 2nd and run it at 4 grand {cool sound}, or in 4th and run it at 2 grand so it sounded like a Harley {not quite that bad}.
Pegs were too high, bars too low, seat too hard...Heavy bike and underpowered compared to in line 4's....and was way overgeared...hardly ever saw 6th gear.

But with all those shaft driven cams, it had a unique whistling sound to it.

Fuck all were imported here and I believe that in 10 or 20 years they will become very collectable, like the CBX.

bro you make me want one even more that you have said that. i like high pegs, low bars and hard seat! and way more power than a vtr, just needs a new front end so it has real brakes on it an throw on some brembo mono blocks

Bad "snatch"in the 2500 to 3500 rpm range,

the last thing you want is a bad snatch.
do you think it could be smoothed out with a power commander?

The SP1 would be my pick, its the best looking bike! Thats all that matters....

Also there is only SP1s and SP2s an sp4 is just a 2004 sp2...

You're not allowed to buy either because I want one as well. (joking....)

:bash:

and for similar reasons.

I think they're iconic not quite in the same way as an RC30 RC45 but still bloody cool. And the motors were built by HRC, apparently.

Ive spoken to both of those owners, both nice people, both I would buy a bike from. I think that the SP3 is a better buy because it is NZ new (so not stickered RVT) less kms and slightly newer. Its obviously been down on the LHS and i have higher rez photos as well: all fixable. The other thing is that the SP3 has had major money expended on fruit (fork rebuild, pC3 etc)

The guy with the SP3 said to me that the SP2 is in fact an SP1 (RC51 in the US) "And its obvious, look at the swingarm" I have no idea if he is correct or not, thats passing on what he said FWIW.

I would also be looking for some Akra cans for the SP3 (yay, ebay!)

I just can't swing the coin at present. :(

Oh and I started a thread on it also: might be some useful info there.

You would.... seeing as how you've been more severely beaten about the ring than Jimmy Peau

Yes, good snatch is better!
And a custom mapped Power Commander really sorts them

i had sp1 in 2001.Paid 29k then they droped to 20k so lost money on that big time.
If you remove the induction nose restriction flap they run well in lower revs.
Takes about 1/2 hr to do so and it changes the bottom end.
Not great two up so sold mine but great bike for brisk winding roads.
Fuel range wasnt great.Average 180 km

Would go for the sp3.Seems good value.
I had rsv mille 2000 model prior and prefered the sp1.

Dude - I'm about to sell my Ray Clee built HRC spec'd SP1/SP2. Motor is in his shop being freshened up now ..... I only did one track day on it about 3 years ago, and now decided to work on it - Has billet stg 2 cams, HRC high comp pistons, crank work, and a stack of HRC go fast bits, retainers/springs & headwork - it's had a bucket load of money thrown at it - GP spec ti brembo's, Maxton rear shock, adjustable off-set tripples, Magnesium Marchesini's, full Akro Ti system - ECU map to be sorted by Ray (plenty more other gear) - same price as that SP3 you're thinking of (the SP3 is an SP2 BTW). The larger throttle bodies actually screwed the mid-range on the road spec 51 - They were designed for the HRC WSBK race bike.
