View Full Version : Motorbikes made me unfit!

Rewind about 3 - 3 1/2 years.
6:45am, out the door on my trusty downhill pushbike with urban wheels wrapped around the rims, giant front suspension and a smaller back wheel. That's how I rolled in birkdale. Ready to clock in at 7:07 (just early enough before the clock round my wages up to 7:30 :first:). 9 hours and 2 1/2 tons of produce unloading later, the 1.5k's back home. Took roughly 5 minutes.

Fast forward a year and a half, to where I'm giving a total stranger riding a motorbike, $4000 in cash. Time to sack up and get a licence for it! (2 failed attempts and months later,) I was holding a Class 6L drivers licence. I am now a free man.

Fast forward half a year.
The day prior I'd handed my bike to Spectrum motorcycles for the fork seals to be replaced, so no black steed to Spectrum Pro stainless, Bush road, Albany.
I set off at 5:30, because I wasn't so sure how long it'd take to pushbike the 12k's there. Took me half an hour. Absolutely stoked with myself, I had a whole hour to listen to beats and relax before work started. Good times!

PRESENT DAY, another year later - After being jobless for a 'few' weeks, and all of this motorbiking around, I decided to dust off the oooold pushie and ride the 10k round trip to PackNsave wairau. Got home 2 hours later. TWO FREAKIN HOURS!

Tomorrow it's a a couple laps around the block and more situps.

It is just so easy to put on your gear, turn the ignition and blast off :(

It was the motorbike! Nothing to do with the chocolate, pies, and bread-and-butter-pudding!

Those motorbikes really are dangerous you know! :(

Yeeaaah, the scratchy test ha ha ha.
Just rocked on in and tried to ace the fucker. Got owned by the 'distance from driveway you can park' and stuff like that.
Absolutely flew through the practical, though.
Used to have a KDX200, but Dad went to Aussie for a couple years so had to sell it. Noone has fucking towbars these days

My bike forces me to spend time on here. While eating cake (me, not the bike). It's so unfair.

Hmmm well ive been in road bike (push bike) racing mountain bike racing/riding/touring for years say 20 years at least.
I now own a motorbike which i use alot, commuting on my mountain bike to work and home total of 1 hour, one way is up hill, 5 days a week is my only excercise at the moment.
I feel much happier, in, im more relaxed, just as fit as i need to be doing fewer kms, don't get nagging sore muscles, and i have more time to do other stuff.
:2thumbsup

Get on to the p90x ab ripper schedule, i have the full dvds, it only takes about 10-20 minutes a day of cardio. After about 4 weeks i can see and feel the difference, ive already got a flat stomach and its fairly rock hard. No need for pushbikes.

No damage from motorcycling for me.
I ride to and from work, but I bring my running gear and jog at lunchtime.
Had however a jogging accident a couple of months ago which resulted in a road rash worthy of a bike-related faceplant...

I reckon riding strengthens the back, forearms and wrists
