I'm starting to have a look around at which gear I'm going to pick up and trying to get a rough idea on prices rather than just heading out and buying the first thing I can afford. SO far I've realised that I'll be saving up for a bit longer than I thought, until I came across this place:

http://www.leatherdirect.co.nz/leather-direct-store-motorcycle.php

Is there a reason they're so cheap compared to everywhere else? Maybe I've only seen sites for the expensive retailers but it seems a bit too good to be true so I thought I'd best ask people with a clue!

you could also try quasimoto (http://www.quasimoto.co.nz/)

or 1tonne (http://www.1tonne.co.nz/)

both are members on this site.

this thread (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=103576) might also be useful.

sweet, thanks for that :D

I really should remember to use the search button, I've got a feeling I'm wanting to ask a load of stuff that's been covered a hundred times already!

The brixton jackets (which I 've noticed on the site) are pretty good value and well made.

Yes i think gear before bike is best.

I've found when it comes to things like boots quality is best. My gaerne boots were cheaper but in the long run the quality was a little crappy.
Also when it comes to a helmet it is more a question of how much you value your head than anything because regardless of what people say you get what you pay for...

Yes it is true that when you pay little you get great quality stuff, its the rule of economics.
Good luck with it.................try not to fall off though, thats kinda when you find out how great it is...............price only matters after the off eh.

Well, at the moment I'm going for what I 'think' will offer me the most protection for my money with the idea of doing a rolling upgrade as and when I can afford it. The helmet isn't going to get skimped on though and it's probably the only thing I won't wind up buying on the web...

well, when you're a little on the skint side it's more about working out if you're paying extra for the same protection with more comfort/style/whatever other variable and trying to balance it right. Unfortunately I just don't have the experience to tell to good from the overpriced just yet, hence the rolling upgrade idea :)

Unsure if you have seen these guys yet but I have had really good dealings with them, good gear, sweet prices, nuff said.
No dramas swapping gear which is the wrong size either.

You will find that most of the higher priced labels have a few bits floating around that can be done cheaper, I know I have, let me know your sizes and I will do something for you
