As seems to be the trend around here, I ask for your advice.

Im a student, have a part time job at a petrol station, dont like it, but its reliable. And Ive just been given a job doing some IT stuff for a small company, 3 guys working a shed kind of thing, they have been around for 12 years, but im not sure if they will have much work for me in the future.
At the moment its uni term break, so i can do both easily. Could probably do both jobs as well as uni, but thinking i should leave the petrol station.

Anyone been in a similar position?

So great people of KB What should i do?

There'll always be petrol station jobs going. IT jobs are harder to come by. If you love it, go for it!

Stay at the gas station and work out a way to steal hundreds of liters of premium for your bike. OR keep with the IT theme, movie to Nigeria and start a scam business

Do both jobs. Its easier to keep a job than find a new one.

If you can manage both jobs than do it, I had 2 jobs while I was studying.

Do your maths. (A budget comes to mind). Once you have that sorted you will know what you need to live. If the petrol station job paying minimum wages keeps you going until you have finished your study then that is all you need.

Remember that your study is what should be the focus here. It is not forever and you really want to give it your all so you get the papers as soon as possible. That then will get you in to whatever industry you are aiming for.

The pros and cons (as I see it) re both jobs:

Petrol pumping:
+: Steady job, rostered, if you need time off there are others you can ask, as long as you do the job you will not be fired. Simple.
-: Low pay, boring, no future.

Puter job:
+: Interesting, could be a opening to something better, potential to give bursts of bigger income, higher pay, ability to work flextime,
-: At times you would have to choose between study and the job as they might have some project on with tight deadlines, unsecure income, Less people contact, you will be measured against your performence and you will have to give much more then when pumping petrol.

If puters/IT is what you are studying, then go for it. If your study is geared towards something that does not have a IT part in it, then stay at the pump.

If you were my son, that is the advice I would give you. And to get a perm!
