The intentions of the ban are good but hands-free set ups are just as dangerous/distracting. As for this ... seems there are already guidelines around it meant to prevent cops driving and talking on the phone at the same time?

Police Association president Greg O'Connor said the clause would bring "howls of outrage", but officers would be told to pull over for calls.

"Police have had a policy for some years that if your phone goes, you are to pull over," he said. "Obviously we will be continuing to advise members that they shouldn't be driving with cellphones."

"[an] enforcement officer may, while driving a vehicle, use a mobile phone to make, receive, or terminate a telephone call if the officer is making, receiving, or terminating the call in the execution of the officer's duty".

The only way to gain "respect" is by earning it! :first:

Do as I say, not as I do, just doesn't cut it! :Pokey:

How many NZ motorists currently show respect for the road law's and the police? As you sow, then shall ye reap!

Under the new rule "[an] enforcement officer may, while driving a vehicle, use a mobile phone to make, receive, or terminate a telephone call if the officer is making, receiving, or terminating the call in the execution of the officer's duty"

That'll make it alright then. They'll be sure to tell their spouse to "Fuck off" when receiving a call to get milk on the way home!

Then of course, there is the use of the two way radio when driveing....Not only police...what does the law say about that?

No, that's fine. No dramas at all.

The Police are more that capable of using phones. The NZ Police are such incredible people that they could be driving, talking on the phone, shaving, sending a fax and getting a blowjob and they'd still be better drivers than everyone else

That should give me credit for at least one ticket

Didn't you guys know? You have to be a Ninja before you can join the Police. It's a prerequisite.

You guys really should stop teasing the KB Kops.

I'd be more worried about splitting your attention two-ways between an LED display on the dashboard and the road while travelling at open road speeds.

As a matter of fact, they shouldn't be allowed to do speed enforcement while travelling unless they were two people in the car.

I just thought you had to possess a decent level of fitness and be able to claim moral integrity... :chase:

No, you're wrong. NINJA! Dey iz in ur Poleez!

I see it now:

Facts:

1. Ninjas are mammals.
2. Ninjas eat donuts ALL the time.
3. The purpose of the ninja is to flip out and give people speeding tickets.

Banning hand-held cell-phone use, yes cause holding the cell phone upto your ear is the distracting part, not talking to the person at the other end.....

Will people be getting fines and demerits for talking to the passenger, changing radio stations or stuffing a pie into their mouths?

And of course the cops get to use their phones, they get to make up the law remember?
