New toy time?

i've been wondering if its the bike holding me back, or just my lack of skill(and the fear of pain when i come off!)
so its time t0 try a new toy.
looking at drz400/wr250 / crf250x
going to take them up to the local track to see if im any quicker on a modern machine, or to find out that its just that im captain slow
going for a trail style bike coz thats what i ride, and the upkeep shouldnt be so expensive

Hey, your bike should fit you like a glove and you should not need to think about riding it.

A change of bike may well help as you clearly have some demons to lose.

Best thing is to get someone to watch your riding style to give you some constructive coaching.

There ain't nothing better.

you will be faster on a newer bike out of those i woulg go for the wr over the crfx and wouldnt go near the drz real heavy pigs

did one of birch's training days. great fun,and hard work.still trying to put it into practise.3 days later and i was still sore.lol
i like the wr or crf but price wise the drz is hard to beat
ill ride them and find out
cant be a heavier or wider bike than mine?

yeah but the advancements on are not much better than what you have either pretty much the same bike just a 150cc bigger and a little newer spend the xtra better suspension, motors, are well worth it in the long run.

I went from a DRZ400 to a WR250. The DRZ is a great trail bike, plenty of grunt but they are bloody heavy and suspension isn't the best. The WR is heaps easier to ride, lighter, better suspension etc, I found I could ride the WR a lot faster than the DRZ as well, easier to throw around and pick up off the ground. Plus with the WR theres a lot you can modify on it to make it quicker if you wanted to, and its still a low maintenance bike.

Get the WR, compared to it the DRZ is a small building.

if you do go down the crf route, keep in mind that in standard from they are pretty slow - eg not much faster than an xr250. this can be resolved for not lot of effort or money by changing the exaust to an R version, change the main jet to a 160, do the pink wire mod to the iginition, open the airbox, and lastly change the cam to a standard R one.

im happy to offer advise on these machines if u have any questions. havnt ridden the WR myself, so cant comment, but the guys who have seem to like them.

also id stay away from the DRZ for the formentioned reasons

I'd find it hard to believe the XR250 would be anywhere near as quick as a CRF250X :gob: maybe compared to the CR250 the CRF is slow but from an XR to CRF would be a nice power increase. Defo need to get rid of the restrictions on them though like the pipe and cams etc.

I wouldnt rode one to get it up a hill for a guy now fair enough i had just got off my 450 and walked down the hill but i did wonder if it was even going to have enough grunt to get up was ringing the shit out of it.

well im comparing a 96 xr250 (dont know if theyre faster than 91s) to a 04 crf, but yeah, there wouldntve been much in it if anything in standard form. honda really managed to strangle the crf down!

I may know where there is 280crf/x up fore sale soonish and its been VERY well looked after its got a aftermarket pipe etc on it too
