Here's some more photos: http://s38.photobucket.com/albums/e118/edorp/Hampton%20Downs%20090830/

There were heaps of people there, especially considering the weather.

The hairpin after the small hill before the long straight looks interesting!

Overall, I think it's going to be difficult to stay in front of bigger bikes on this track, lots of fast bits. I can't wait to see what it's like on a bike though.
And that was just the national circuit!

I have a tendency to agree with you, the run off is not bad though

After doing the walk yesterday the amount of run off doesn't concern me much. Even that bit coming onto the front straight, it's a little hairy but woudl require a giant fuck up. Still nothing like Pukekohe thankfully.

One concerning thing though is they seem to have done a flip-flop on what they were putting in the run off areas and they've decided on sand! Christ, it'll be cartwheel city if you hit that at speed.

Unfortunately they're going for the heavily rippled kerbing too :(

The cork screw:shit:

fucking rock!!!!:Punk: Loving the look of that sucker!!! Of course when I'm on my bike will be a totally different story and I shall enter that with all the haste of a elephant shagging.

It'd be bloody cool in a car

Unfortunately they're going for the heavily rippled kerbing too :(

All the corners already have kerbing and the ripples will be put in after they've run a few events once they work out where the cars are running onto the kerbs. The straights seemed no wider than usual but turn 1 and the last corner up to the pit straight were very wide (25m wide) before narrowing onto the straight. While this gives some sealed runoff or overtaking opportunity, they all end with a kerb on the outside of the corner (cartwheel city !! yay :( )

With the current rate of construction it is hard to believe it would be ready for Oct .... even Jan 2010 may be quite a challenge.

Will be interesting to see what sort of pit facilities ( in the centre of the track) will be available.

Isn't that how Rainey broke his back / paralysed himself, sliding across one of those?

Hard to tell from the photos, but a lot of the tyres, armco and fences look close to the racing line, run off too. In one photos the armco seems to run parallel to the track for quite a distance only a couple of meters away?
