Just popped out to the shed to do some work before round 5, and have noticed that my Dunlop rear has 'blued-up' in patches. Clearly, that won't be the technical term for the problem, but that's the best way I have of describing it at this time of the day. As far as wear goes, the tyre looks great, and it still have good tread depth to it. But I have to wonder if I go and put the tyre warmers on it on the 25th, and then do some laps at the Friday test day, is it going to do all sorts of weird funky shit on me?

Is it stuffed? Too many heat cycles at Manfield for a road tyre? Is it time for me to get the Contis on and stop trying to get every last cent out of the Dunlops?

Nah, wring em out and if you crash you can say I gave you crap advice and you can maintain your Scottish principles in the meantime.

But seriously, they are probably had it for track use. Usually a sign of an overheated tyre either through under-inflation or suspension settings working them a bit hard.

Thats the "oils" in the tyre coming out, normal for a tyre thats been sitting after having been through a decent heat cycle.
It doesn't mean they're completely stuffed, but just be aware that the grip level has probably reduced a bit, it will go away after a session, they have given their best already though so use caution.
How old are they?

As Tony said, they have been hot then cooled down too fast. After racing the usual thing to do is to put your warmers (if you run them) back on without turning them on so your tyres dont cool down too fast.

Im told that when the tyre heats up then cools down too fast the little micro-scopic strands in the rubber break and thats the blue you can see.
Maybe someone else with tyre knowledge (i mean someone who actually knows!) can shed some more light on this??

OR!!
Maybe the Suzuki is infecting it with some voodoo trickery mate?

Mate I used to use ex race Rennsport tyres. They were very blue but performed good enough. The pace we ride at those tyres in that condition will be fine. Shit in fact those tyres are mint. So in that case they're well fucked and you should give them to me.

I wouldn't hesitate to use them on the road. Track's a different story.

Thanks for the feedback. Discretion being the better part of valour, they'll be coming off and replaced by the Continentals that are sitting in the shed waiting for their day.
